Many have called or emailed regarding the HGTV channel’s  season’s opening production of home transformations presently focused on Laurel, Mississippi.  Until last Monday afternoon, we were unaware that Ben McKibbens’ childhood home would be the season’s premiere—or that it would be opposite the National Championship Title game, featuring the football collision between two battling SEC schools, Alabama and Georgia.

Bill and Sandra Lovett enjoyed a special celebration of Christmas, visiting daughter Laura, son-in-law Michael, and granddaughters Lydia and Arlee in Amherst, Massachusetts.   They were joined by daughter Terrin, son-in-law Brent, and granddaughter Annika, all present from California,  for a complete family gathering.  Experiencing their first “White Christmas”, with associated snow-shoveling to clear the driveway, the Lovetts watched the youngsters sledding, building a snowman, and just enjoying their family.  And, you may be sure, a good time was had by all!

Forest friends were distressed to hear that Ellen Stegall of Hattiesburg sustained a serious fall Saturday night.  She was taken to Forrest General Hospital where is was determined she had suffered a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain.  She remained in ICU for several days but has now been moved into a private room and is showing signs of improvement.  We wish her a speedy and complete recovery.

Gayla and Shane Steed of Memphis, Tennessee, came to Forest on Tuesday for an overnight visit in the home of Gayla's parents, Barbara and Lamar Gatewood.

Mitzi and Allen Breland went to Oxford on Friday for the long holiday weekend.  On Saturday they attended the Florida/Ole Miss basketball game.

Congratulations to Matt and Sami Reynolds on the birth of their daughter, Tatum Brooks, born yesterday, January 10 weighing 8 lb. 7 oz. & 22" long!  Proud grandparents are Randy and Cindy Reynolds!  Proud great grandmother is Vernoy Reynolds!

Carol Threadgill of Tupelo arrived in Forest on Sunday for a birthday visit with her mother, Jean Palmer.  On Tuesday Carol went to Jackson where she and several other former FHS classmates gathered for lunch.  The group included Kristy Walsh Sessums of Brookhaven, Margy Lee Thaxton of Brandon, Chris Rushing Chapman of Madison and Cindy Colbert Mitchell of Raymond.

Congratulations to Forest Bearcat Diwun Black who has been named one of the Top Ten recruits in Mississippi. He is listed as the number seven prospect in the state.  ESPN lists him as the number 29 player in the country!   Proud of you, Diwun!!
