The unofficial election results for the City of Forest Ward-1 Alderman race have been announced by election officials. Yesterday’s election yielded no majority for one candidate. There will be a runoff election between Yolanda White and Dewaun Walker on August 6.
Due to the possibility of heavy rain, Run Forest Run has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 18.
The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) issued a water contact advisory Tuesday for a section of Pelahatchie Creek near the City of Morton (see attached map). The advisory is issued for Pelahatchie Creek from Highway 13 at Morton to where the creek crosses Highway 80 near the Town of Clarkburg.

We are very thankful for the outpouring of love and concern for Terry since his stroke yesterday morning. Your prayers have been felt, and we solicit them further in the days ahead.
Sen. Terry Burton has suffered a stroke and is undergoing medical care, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves’s office said today.
“Please join me and Elee in praying for Senator Burton and his family,” Lt. Gov. Reeves said.
His family has asked for privacy at this time.
Lab results are in on Ricky Hawkins, the driver of the pickup truck that allegedly caused the death of Connie Phillips and her granddaughter, Madi McDill, in a Dec. 29 accident on Highway 35 in front of Walmart in Forest. Based on the lab report warrants have been issued for two counts of DUI Manslaughter.

State inmate Gregory Trigg, who escaped from the Scott County Jail last weekend, has been captured and is back in prison.
Trigg, #R4245, was found in a motel in Hazlehurst and arrested without incident by local authorities. He was caught at 11:30 p.m. Monday at the motel. His identity was confirmed later.
