Two people were found dead in the Conehatta community late Friday night, Choctaw Police have confirmed.
The Choctaw Police Department released the following statement to The Newton County Appeal: “The Choctaw Police Department, in conjunction with the FBI, MBI, Newton County Sheriff’s Department, and the Newton County Coroner’s Office, are currently working an active case in the Conehatta community involving the death of two individuals. It is an on-going investigation and no further details are available at this time.”
The Newton County Appeal also reached out to Taylor Pavich, FBI media representative and received the following answer: “The FBI can neither confirm nor deny whether matters are under investigation.”
Newton County Sheriff Joedy Pennington and Newton County Coroner Danny Shoemaker declined to comment on the situation stating that Choctaw Police and the FBI are in charge of the investigation since the incident occurred on tribal lands. Pennington and Shoemaker were instructed by the FBI not to issue any press releases or statements.
According to social media reports, the incident apparently occurred on Mac Road and McDill Road west of Conehatta near the Newton/Scott County line.
