You certainly won’t want to miss the Martin/ Baker recital THIS weekend!!! Music students of Irene Martin and Emily Baker will be presented in recital Saturday, May 19, at 2:00 p.m., at the New Liberty Baptist Church, in Morton. The public is cordially invited to attend.
We are glad to learn that Raman Patel is recovering nicely after undergoing knee-replacement surgery last week at River Oaks Hospital in Flowood. He and Jay have enjoyed visits from all three of their sons during his recuperation at home: Sunay and Ahbay of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Roshan of Alexandria, Virginia.
Among those who enjoyed sunny Florida last week for the annual Mississippi Bankers Convention in Destin were Gene and Dianne Walker and Allen and Mitzi Breland.
Thanks to Mary Jo Walsh and Irene Martin, who reported on their most recent excursion. Sounds like fun! The adventure took them leisurely thru Pelahatchie, north on Holly Bush Road to the property known as McClain’s Farmers Market, Mercantile, Restaurants and Lounge. It is an amazing venue. There is a Safari area, in the making, with many interesting animals. Out of curiosity they drove back to Luckett Lodge which is now part of the McClain’s property. They drove home via Highway 25 thru ‘the country,’ Morton and home. This is definitely a ‘destination’ adventure! Everything was first class, the people working there were engaging, helpful and invested in customer satisfaction. It was a fun outing topped off with a delicious buffet lunch.
Mitch and Rhett Mitchell left early Saturday morning for Delta State University for the graduation ceremonies of their son and grandson, Kai Mitchell and his wife, Deidra. They spent Saturday night in Forest, joined by cousin Cecil Allred of Madison on Sunday for a quick trip to the coast. He was back in town on Monday, to prepare for next weekend’s excursion to Oxford.
Paul and Christy Walker Cofer and children of Homewood, Alabama, visited recently in the home of her parents, Gene and Dianne Walker.
For ‘old timers’ planning reunion trips ‘home’ in coming weeks, you’ll be amazed at the selection of local eateries from which to choose! Penn’s, Young’s Tastey Freeze and The Garden Patch are still popular with the locals as well as several surprisingly good Mexican and oriental restaurants — not to mention an array of fast (and not so fast) food restaurants! For lunch you’ll also want to try the popular Oak, coming into Forest from I-20 on 35. Who are we missing? Let us know if we’ve missed your favorite local eatery!
Please send your items for the Forest area column, to our email address, email@example.com. Hope to hear from you soon!
