Dr. Jimmy and Sharon Hollingsworth recently returned from a trip to Arizona. They were in Scottsdale at Talking Stick Resort for Jimmy to attend a training seminar. They then traveled to the Grand Canyon where they stayed at the Yavapai Lodge at the South Rim. The sunset over the Grand Canyon was spectacular. The next day they traveled along the South Rim before heading to the Petrified National Forest and the Painted Desert. From there they went on to Albuquerque, New Mexico where they spent the night in the Doctor’s House at the historic Hotel Parq Central, an old hospital built in 1926 that is now a historic landmark.

Congratulations to Beth Gatewood on the birth of their son, John Howard, born May 3rd, weighing 7 lbs 1 oz and was 20 1/2”“ long! Proud grandparents are Joey & Linda Gatewood!

A pizza party was held at the Forest Library for members of the Teen Advisory Board (TAB). Some of the Friends of the Library group attended to meet the students who came from Forest and Scott Central. Librarian Brandi Parker is in charge of this program which has students help out at the library and plan activities such as making a video and planning Halloween and Valentine parties. One student will win a $1,000 Scholarship. The winner will be announced on Awards Day.

Please remember to keep Melinda Melichar Koerber’s in your thoughts this week. Her surgery is Tuesday, May 21.

Guests of Irene Martin this week were Herb and Jo Dee Flindt of Salt Lake City, Utah. They joined their daughter, Kisty, and grandchildren Kylie, Brynnley and Lydia for piano lessons.

Happy 101st birthday to Iva Dee Bonderant who will celebrate with family and friends on May 24. She has played the piano for many Sunday morning church services as pianist at The Blake Assisted Living Center. So glad to hear she is recovering well from her recent hospitalization. She enjoyed a family hosted birthday cookout last week, and more is planned!

Tom and Margaret Burns have returned from Asheville, North Carolina, where they enjoyed a visit with Dr. John and Sara Burns and especially enjoyed being a part of the first birthday celebration of grandson Thomas!

Forest Rotarians were treated to a very special program last Wednesday when Sonny Renfroe, former Forest and Scott County educator now of Hattiesburg, presented a very interesting program on his father’s military service during World War II.  Private Horace Renfroe was deployed to Scotland in 1942 and served in the European Theater until 1945.  Sonny’s interesting and humorous talk was enjoyed by all!!!

Our thoughts are with the family of Vernoy Reynolds who passed away  at St. Dominics Hospital in Jackson, following surgery last Thursday.  She had sustained a fall and a broken hip at the Bee-Hive late Tuesday night.  No more details were available at this writing, but hope to follow up with additional information in next issue.

Gayla Steed of Olive Branch was a recent overnight guest in the home of her parents, Barbara and Lamar Gatewood.

Congratulations to Haley Mitchell, granddaughter of Rhett Mitchell, upon her graduation from Florida State University. With her at graduation were also her sister Brooke, and parents, Stan and Kellie Mitchell, who flew over from their residence in Thailand, returning last week.

We have usually had several items from classes planning summer reunions by this time...
