The Class 3A No. 2 Forest Lady Bearcat basketball team has won their way back to the to the Mississippi Coliseum to play in the Final Four of the 2019 Mississippi Class-3A State Basketball Championship. It has been over a decade since the FHS has made it to the final four in the state playoffs, but this year’s team is poised to make a run at the 3A State Championship.

In order to accomplish that the Lady Bearcats may have to unseat the two-time defending champion, and division foe, Choctaw Central, who faces Belmont in the Final Four. Forest’s only district loss of the year came at the hands of the Lady Warriors. But the Lady Bearcats returned the favor by handing Choctaw Central one of their two losses on the season. These two teams are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in Class 3A and have stayed that way most of the season so there could be a third and deciding showdown coming.

Before the Lady Bearcats can even think about facing Choctaw Central, they must first focus on their opening game against the Lady Aggies of Kossuth High School. KHS has a record of 23-7 on the year and will enter the game against FHS on a 10-game winning streak. As for the Lady Bearcats they enter the contest with a record of 27-5.

In order to make it to the coliseum the Lady Bearcats won two road games and one home game to reach the 3A Final Four.

Last week, the ladies started their playoff run with a blowout win on the road against the Magee Lady Trojans. Forest jumped out to an early lead over Magee and poured it on the rest of the game taking the win by a score of 61-32.

In second round action the Lady Bearcats hosted the ladies of Hazlehurst High School. The visiting Lady Indians came ready to play and gave the Lady Bearcats all they had, but Forest was able to come away with a 77-69 win.

In third round playoff action FHS traveled to Southeast Lauderdale to face the Lady Tigers. Once again it was all Lady Bearcats as they advanced to the final four with a 60-34 victory.

The Lady Bearcats improved their record to 27-5 on the year. FHS is currently ranked No. 2 in Class 3A behind division foe, and two-time defending state champion, No. 1 Choctaw Central.

The Lady Bearcats will play Kossuth High School (23-7) at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson on March 6 at 9:00 a.m.
