FMSD names Parent of the Year
Forest Municipal School District has announced their selection for Parent of the Year — Chiquita Lofton-Wilson, who was nominated by Forest High School Principal, Kim Shoemaker.
Lofton-Wilson is the mother of Devonyal Lofton ,a Junior at FHS, and DeKarai Lofton, a 7th grader at Hawkins Middle School. Lofton-Wilson is very involved in her children’s education, Shoemaker said. “She is just a phone call away whenever a teacher has a concern about their performance or behavior in class. She frequently calls and messages to check on their grades and work or to ask questions as she is helping them study for tests.”
Lofton-Wilson is an active football booster club member helping with fundraisers and preparing pre-game food/snacks for the team. She encourages her boys to be active in as many aspects of Forest High School and Hawkins Middle School as possible , whether sports, choir, or beauty and beau, and is always there to cheer them on.
Lofton-Wilson works for Kelly Services as a substitute teacher and is considered an “excellent substitute for Forest High School who always shows up with a smile on her face.” She is married to Jeffery Wilson and serves on and leads a community ministry program called “Women of Purpose.”
Lofton-Wilson graduated from Forest High School in 1996 and says that she is a “Bearcat for Life.”
