Forest Area Chamber of Commerce announces 2019 events

Each year the Forest Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors numerous events that have become annual community celebrations. During the calendar year of 2019 the chamber will hold these six events:

April 4 • Chamber Golf Tournament. The chamber will sponsor and host the annual Chamber Golf Tournament at the Forest Country Club. “There should be 30 or more sponsors and we are looking for up to 25 teams this year,” Allyce Lott Executive Director of Forest Chamber of Commerce said. “The money raised through the golf tournament will go towards scholarship funds and offer three $500 scholarships that will be given at the end of the year.” Food will be sponsored by Vowells and there will be a new car give away by Forest Ford for the first hole-in-one made on hole number one. The tournament will get underway 12:30 April 4th.

April 24 • Women’s Luncheon. The annual women’s luncheon will be held on April 24. This day is also known as Administrative Professional Day. “Tickets are $15 dollars and can be purchase at city hall, make sure you get your tickets early,” Lott said. As they do each year local business sponsors will be decorating the tables for the guest. Each table will sit eight attendees and when they arrive each guest will have a gift waiting to be opened at their seat. “Be sure to come early because there are always people lining up at the door,” said Lott. The doors will open at 11:45.

May 10 • Excellence in Academics and Teaching Dinner. At the end of each school year The Chamber recognizes high achieving students from the schools throughout the local area. This years high achieving students and teachers will be recognized and introduced during the Excellence in Academics Dinner. Chamber Scholarships will be given out along with many more honors and prizes. This annual event also serves as the Teacher of The Year Awards that recognizes excellence in teaching.

“We will be honoring the students from the Forest Municipal School District and the schools from the Scott County School District who have maintained a 93 average or above as of Christmas 2018,” Lott explained. This year’s event will continue the extended recognition started at the 2018 dinner that will include as many students as possible. All students with a 93 or above cumulative grade point average as of the end of the 1st semester of their senior year, will be invited to a banquet; which will be held at the Jackson Country Club. As part of the evening of events selected students will be awarded scholarships from area businesses including Capitol Oil, Forest Dental, and also Marion Sistrunk.

September 28 • 14th Annual Wing Dang Doodle Festival. The 2019 WDD Festival will offer fun, food, activities and music for the entire community as it does each year. This years event will include live entertainment throughout the day, the annual 5K run/walk, and the chicken wing cookoff. “Each year this is our biggest community event and the WDD is always a day full of fun for the entire community,” Lott said.

The event that all children can’t wait for each year because it formally opens Christmas season and signals that Santa is on the way. “The Christmas Parade is always a joyous time for children and adults alike,” said Lott. “Each year the selected Citizen(s) of The Year will be the Grand Marshalls and the community always comes together to put on a wonderful parade for all that attend, and we don’t expect this year to be any different.”
