Three being held in connection to Johnson murder

The Scott County Sheriff’s Department has three suspects in custody in connection to the Latasha Johnson murder investigation. “We currently have three individuals in custody and all three individuals are charged with felony accessory after the fact in connection with Mrs. Johnson’s murder,” Scott County Sheriff Mike Lee said.


Jennings rushes for 258 yards carrying Morton to first win of young season

Morton workhorse running back Von Jennings was determined his team would not leave Raymond without a victory this past Friday night. He would rush for 258 yards on 18 carries and scored three touchdowns. Jennings not only carried the football, he put his teammates on his shoulders and carried them to their first victory of the 2018 season.





Mary Voncile Higbie

Mary Voncile Tadlock Higbie, 91, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at her residence surrounded by her family. A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Friday, September 7, 2018 at Homewood Methodist Cemetery. Her brother, Bobby Paul Tadlock officiated.

Mrs. Joan H. Johnson, age 73, and a current resident of Crystal Springs, formerly of Scott County, passed away at her daughter's home on Sunday, September 2, 2018 after an extended illness.



Katie Ritchie

Mrs. Katie Ritchie, age 79, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2018 at her residence in Forest, MS. Visitation was held Sunday, September 9, 2018 from 1:15 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church. Services followed September 9, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church. There was no graveside services.

The Scott Central Rebels continued their winning record with the defeat of Morton on Thursday night with a final score of 41-7.  Scott Central will travel to Newton County this Friday with plans to add another win to their record.

Second Annual Toy Drive underway

The Scott County Sheriff’s Department began accepting donations Monday in their second annualy Sheriff’s Toy Drive. There is a drop off box at the Scott County Sheriff’s Department in the lobby which is open to the public 24 hours a day. There will be a small drop box at Petals & More in Forest.

Forestry Banquet Oct. 26
