MLK Walk set for Monday


On Monday, Scott County will join in with Americans across the nation who will pause for the day to remember the life and contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Government offices, schools and banks will be among the entities closed in honor of the civil rights leader.

Arrest Report January 16

The following individuals were entered into the docket at the Scott County Detention Center January 3– January 11 in addition to an addition to the arrest docket from December 29, 2018. All individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Charles Wayne Goolsby

Charles Wayne Goolsby, 47, of Terry, MS passed away on January 3, 2019.

Charles was born and raised in Forest, MS to Nancy and Arthur Goolsby. He attended Scott Central School. Charles married Linda in 1998. He worked as a dispatch and enjoyed his children and grandchildren, farming, and fishing.

Welcome 2019

We are probably all tired of the constant raining, but we are blessed beyond measure! We could have had it much worse if it had been ice and snow mixed in. That may be here down the line, since it is winter. Just thankful for present time. The sun was a welcome sight and hope it sticks around this week!

Mr. Ricky Marion “R.D.” Dennis, age 69, passed away Tuesday January 8, 2019 at Anderson Hospital in Meridian, MS. Visitation was held Friday January 11, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and Saturday January 12, 2019 from 9:00 AM until 9:50 AM at Wolf Funeral Services in Lake, MS.

Second Annual Toy Drive underway

The Scott County Sheriff’s Department began accepting donations Monday in their second annualy Sheriff’s Toy Drive. There is a drop off box at the Scott County Sheriff’s Department in the lobby which is open to the public 24 hours a day. There will be a small drop box at Petals & More in Forest.
