Joyce Harrison celebrates 99 years

Ms. Joyce Harrison was born on March 18, 1920 in Jasper county Mississippi. She attended school in Jasper county until she graduated and moved on to attend the University of Southern Mississippi where she got her degree in Home Economics. She taught Home Economics in Ringold and Sebastopol for over 32 years until she retired in 1982.


Forestry Banquet set for March 28

The Scott County Forestry Association Banquet will be held Thursday, March 28, at Roosevelt State Park Lodge. Registration will begin at 6:00 p.m. with the meal and program beginning at 6:30 p.m.  Please call the Scott County Extension Office at 601-469-4241 by March 21, if you would like to attend.



100th Birthday

Happy 100th Birthday to Mrs. Estella Fountain. Her birthday was Sunday, March 10 and was celebrated on Saturday March 9 at Kat’s Kave in Forest with family and friends.

Lackey Hospital Auxiliary news

The Lackey Hospital Auxiliary met Thurs., March 14. President Lorry Blackwell called the meeting to order and welcomed new member, Helen Hawkins.  Business discussion included providing magazines for the waiting rooms, decorating the bulletin board and patient gifts which are given for some holidays.

Harrison celebrating 99th birthday

Ms. Joyce Harrison is celebrating her 99 years young birthday on Monday, 3/18/19! She was at church Sunday and stood up for songs and prayer.  Her son Charles and family, along with a couple of nieces brought her for services.  She is certainly a trooper and always has a smile and a hug!


MHV holds annual banquet

The Scott County Mississippi Homemaker Volunteers and 4-H Members were cooking up some fun with this year’s award banquet theme: “Wild Thyme…Cooking up Fun”. Decorations, spatula and cookbook favors were all centered on the cooking theme.

Why do we tear one another down with our words? Could it be rebellion, jealously, envy, etc. that causes us to belittle others?

As Christians, shouldn’t we follow God’s heart to love instead of wasting time criticizing others?


Signs with East Mississippi

Vantasia Duncan signed her letter of intent to continue her basketball career at East Mississippi Community College recently. Vantasia is a future graduate of Forest High School where she has received the LaShonda Ford award, Scott County Tourney MVP, All-District as well as All-State recognition, and various other athletic awards.

Missed the storms

In my community, we were really blessed that predictions for weekend weather didn’t happen! We gripe about the up and down temperatures and several days of rain, but have to remember that we are in Mississippi.

Mississippi Bar honors Slaughter-Harvey for her lifetime of service

The Mississippi Bar presented Constance Slaughter-Harvey of Forest with its Lifetime Achievement Award during their 2018 Annual Meeting. The Bar presents the Lifetime Achievement Award to those individuals who have devoted service to the public, profession and the administration of justice over the span of a professional career.

Second Annual Toy Drive underway

The Scott County Sheriff’s Department began accepting donations Monday in their second annualy Sheriff’s Toy Drive. There is a drop off box at the Scott County Sheriff’s Department in the lobby which is open to the public 24 hours a day. There will be a small drop box at Petals & More in Forest.




Teacher of the Year

Forest School District Teachers of the year awards from left are Lindsay White Middle School English teacher, Robin Sistruck was also recognized for being district teacher of the year for the elementary school, and Katherine Grisham who received the award for the High School
