Mrs. Josie Gibbs, age 103, passed away Friday, March 15, 2019 at Trend Health Systems in Carthage, MS. Visitation was  Saturday, March 16, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday March 17, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Hazel Baptist Church in Lake, MS. Funeral services were held Sunday March 17, 2019 at 3:00 p.m.

Services for Edna Ezell were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 17, 2019 at Milling Funeral Home Chapel of Union with burial at County Line Cemetery. Bro. David Jay officiated.

Visitation was held from 5:30 p.m. - 8 p.m., Saturday, March 16, 2019 and 1 hour prior to services on Sunday, March 17, 2019

Two in custody in Bland case

The Forest Police Department has two suspects in custody in connection with the January 24 murder of Tykey Bland. Demarlo Pereze West, Jr., left photo, 17, of Lake and Nelson Ortiz, Jr., right photo, 18, of Forest have both been charged with First Degree Murder. West also faces an additional charge of Aggravated Assault-Gun.

Arrest Report March 13

The following individuals were entered into the docket at the Scott County Detention Center February 28- March 6. All individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Mississippi Bar honors Slaughter-Harvey for her lifetime of service

The Mississippi Bar presented Constance Slaughter-Harvey of Forest with its Lifetime Achievement Award during their 2018 Annual Meeting. The Bar presents the Lifetime Achievement Award to those individuals who have devoted service to the public, profession and the administration of justice over the span of a professional career. 

Leiden, Phillips to wed Saturday

Dr. Kelly Leiden of Ocean Springs and Mr. Matthew Leiden of Virginia Beach, VA are pleased to announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Lauren Walsh Leiden to Gene Bridges Phillips, Junior, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Bridges Phillips, Senior of Memphis, Tennessee.


Second Annual Toy Drive underway

The Scott County Sheriff’s Department began accepting donations Monday in their second annualy Sheriff’s Toy Drive. There is a drop off box at the Scott County Sheriff’s Department in the lobby which is open to the public 24 hours a day. There will be a small drop box at Petals & More in Forest.
