2018: The Year in Review

December 2018 was one of the top 3 wettest months on record in Mississippi and Scott  County was no exception. Just as the year was about to a close torrential downpours on December 27 caused widespread street flooding.

Carolyn R. Garvin,

Carolyn R. Garvin, 78, of Fulton entered Heaven’s gates on October 27, 2017, following a valiant fight against cancer.
She was born on July 9, 1939 in Smith County, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Oliver Regions and the late Velma (Thompson) Regions.

Mrs. Earnesteen Jones

Funeral services for Mrs. Earnesteen Jones will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 from the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Johnson, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.



General Election set for Tuesday

Voters will head to the polls Tuesday, November 6, for the 2018 General Election where they will select their choice for multiple congressional seats, judicial seats and for the school board. 

Scott County Polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. On Tuesday the races included on the General Election ballot are:


Forest Library is enhanced by recent donations of books

When Norma Ruth Lee learned that the Forest Public Library was featuring a display for National Cookbook Month, she decided that one of her prized cookbooks belonged in the display. When Gary Risher received an extra copy of a book commemorating fifty years since the Vietnam War, he chose to donate the book to the library for Veteran’s Day.
