What's wrong with Forest?

Dear Editor:

Well, the sad, undeniable truth is — Forest is dying!  So, now, the more important question becomes — Why is Forest dying? The answers to why Forest is dying may be a little too much for just one ‘letter to the editor’, but we can start with the #1 cause that Forest is dying — Forest is a Sanctuary City.

Mississippi Blood Services will be holding a blood drive at Lake Elementary School and Lake High School on Wednesday, January 24. The MBS Donor Coach will be at Lake High School from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. and at Lake Elementary School from 12 – 6 p.m. Donors will receive a T-shirt while supplies last.

Mrs. Cleola “Sis” Latham

Mrs. Cleola “Sis” Latham age 85, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2017 in Jackson, MS.  Visitation was held from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at the Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton and again on Sunday, October 15, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Funeral Services were held 2:00 p.m.

DYW participants are excellent representatives

Scott Central is so very proud that the 2019 Scott County Distinguished Young Woman is our very own, Olivia Triplett. Olivia is the daughter of O.B. Triplett and Ingrid Triplett, who recently retired as an elementary teacher at Scott Central.



FHS Homecoming

The Forest High School Homecoming game is this Friday, September 29.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm versus Choctaw Central for the Bearcats first 3A matchup of the season.  The homecoming court will be presented and the queen crowned during the halftime ceremony.


State Finalist

Kelly Atkison, senior at Forest High School, was recently recognized as a 2017 Mississippi State Finalist for the Wendy's High School Heisman. Kelly was selected from all the high school nominees as a state finalist. Only 20 total students were recognized at the ceremony for the State of Mississippi.

Second Annual Toy Drive underway

The Scott County Sheriff’s Department began accepting donations Monday in their second annualy Sheriff’s Toy Drive. There is a drop off box at the Scott County Sheriff’s Department in the lobby which is open to the public 24 hours a day. There will be a small drop box at Petals & More in Forest.
