MLK Walk set for Monday

On Monday, Scott County will join in with Americans across the nation who will pause for the day to remember the life and contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Government offices, schools and banks will be among the entities closed in honor of the civil rights leader.

The following individuals were entered into the docket at the Scott County Detention Center January 3– January 11 in addition to an addition to the arrest docket from December 29, 2018. All individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

2018: The Year in Review

December 2018 was one of the top 3 wettest months on record in Mississippi and Scott  County was no exception. Just as the year was about to a close torrential downpours on December 27 caused widespread street flooding.

Albert Myer “Buddy” Lovett

Mr. Albert Myer “Buddy” Lovett, age 81, a resident of Morton passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018 at the Mississippi Care Center in Morton. Visitation was held from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Thursday, February 22, 2018 from the Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton and 8:30 a.m. -1 p.m.

I suppose it’s all up to the ole groundhog at this point. Winter, that is. Of course we’ve still got a little over a week before Groundhog Day and “officially” knowing what to expect for the next six weeks, but after the last half-a-month or so I’m hoping more than ever before that Punxsutawney Phil doesn’t see his shadow this year.

Second Annual Toy Drive underway

The Scott County Sheriff’s Department began accepting donations Monday in their second annualy Sheriff’s Toy Drive. There is a drop off box at the Scott County Sheriff’s Department in the lobby which is open to the public 24 hours a day. There will be a small drop box at Petals & More in Forest.
