Three being held in connection to Johnson murder

The Scott County Sheriff’s Department has three suspects in custody in connection to the Latasha Johnson murder investigation. “We currently have three individuals in custody and all three individuals are charged with felony accessory after the fact in connection with Mrs. Johnson’s murder,” Scott County Sheriff Mike Lee said.


Jennings rushes for 258 yards carrying Morton to first win of young season

Morton workhorse running back Von Jennings was determined his team would not leave Raymond without a victory this past Friday night. He would rush for 258 yards on 18 carries and scored three touchdowns. Jennings not only carried the football, he put his teammates on his shoulders and carried them to their first victory of the 2018 season.





Mary Voncile Higbie

Mary Voncile Tadlock Higbie, 91, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at her residence surrounded by her family. A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Friday, September 7, 2018 at Homewood Methodist Cemetery. Her brother, Bobby Paul Tadlock officiated.

Fatal I-20 crash leads to gridlock on Highway 80 from Lake to Morton

On Tuesday, May 14 around 3:00 p.m. there was an accident involving an overturned 18-wheeler on I-20 which spilled its cargo all across the interstate. The accident occurred approximately three miles West of Forest Exit 88 near the Blossom Hill Road overpass and caused a traffic jam that extended east for miles.

Jail escapee captured

State inmate Gregory Trigg, who escaped from the Scott County Jail last weekend, has been captured and is back in prison.

Trigg, #R4245, was found in a motel in Hazlehurst and arrested without incident by local authorities. He was caught at 11:30 p.m. Monday at the motel. His identity was confirmed later.

The Scott Central Rebel Pride Marching Band performed at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom over Spring Break. Scott Central Band Director, Dustin Haley, commented:


Hornets defeat Richland, 35-20, look ahead to Union this Friday night

The Lake Hornets overcame the Richland Rangers last Friday night, 35-20. The Hornets now boast a record of five wins and one loss this season.
Coach Tate Hanna said, “I was very pleased with how we played this past Friday. We did a great job up front on both sides of the ball. This is the first game we played well the entire game.”
