Quick Bites is a program offered through the Mississippi State University Extension that provides timely information on a wide variety of topics to citizens across the state through interactive video. These programs are held during lunch (from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m.) on Thursdays at the Scott County Extension Service office, 230 South Davis Street, Forest. May 23: “Fire Ants: Mound Builders” will be presented by Dr. Blake Layton, MSU Extension Professor Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Entomology and Plant Pathology. We have had cool, wet spring weather and the fire ants have been busy. Join Dr. Layton as he shares the facts and fiction about controlling fire ants in the home landscape and lawn.

Excel is holding a Summer Camp at Excel Community and Learning Center in Morton for Kindergarten through 5th grade. Those dates will be Monday - Thursday, June 3-6, 10-13, 17-20, and 24-27, from 8:00 am -11:30am. Cost is $25 per child and $20 for each additional child in the family. A light breakfast will be served in the morning and a small snack mid morning. The activities will include math, reading, crafts, and more! Special presentations will be given by local and neighboring guests. Preregistration is necessary! Please register by May 24th. Memorial Day, a nationally observed holiday, will be Monday, May 27. Government offices, banks, and many others will be closed. An inspiring ceremony, presented by local American Legion and VFW posts, will be at 11:00 a.m. at the courthouse. Speaker will be Rev. Larry Duncan, pastor of Salem Baptist Church. All are welcome. CMRLS Libraries will be closed Monday, May 27, in observance of National Memorial Day. Regular Library hours will resume on Tuesday, May 28. All online resources will be available at cmrls.lib.ms.us while your library is closed.
