When we propose or decide to do things that are good for our life and we achieve them by reaching those objectives, we show happiness and joy. In every order of things, the same thing happens to all of us as long as our discernment gives importance to the spiritual. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” James 1:5 ESV
At present, many consider themselves happy only when they can acquire or possess material goods, but in reality, that state of mind does not go beyond being joy because our spirit is something foreign to the material. Otherwise it would imply that only those who have enough money to buy what they want are happy. No poor person could be happy, and that is a misinterpretation of the concept of happiness. The concept of happiness is complex and difficult to treat due to the existence of different cultures on the planet. What is happiness for some like us as a Christian, may not be for others.
We believe that God, in his creation, gave a degree of inspiration to the human being so that one day he would write what we know today as the Bible. We will understand that when reading the Gospel we are educated that we should not follow things that are vain and that the most important thing is our faithfulness and obedience to God. A living God that “In past generations He allowed all the nations to walk in their own ways. Yet did not leave himself without witness, for He did good by giving you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.” Acts 14: 16-17 ESV
Happiness is never presented as a good in itself, since to know it it is necessary to understand it by acting correctly so that then it produces spiritual satisfaction that leads us to happiness. To become happy, a Christian must know how to love. That love is manifested by loving God, others and ourselves. The nature of God is love and the best example and teaching He gave us was giving himself by giving His only Son to die on the cross for the good of all sinners. If we do not live with love it is impossible to feel and possess happiness.
If we meditate and look around us, we can realize that there are people who are unable to rejoice or feel happy when they see the happiness of others. They do not understand it because they have never given themselves for the good of others. Even more do not know or know of Jesus Christ, let alone achieve the salvation of the soul that can only be achieved with faith. Because our faith is rooted in believing in God our Father, in his Son and in the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ tells us: “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.” John 15” 9-11 ESV
May God bless you.
