Sittin’ and thinkin’: Sunday, June 18 is Father’s Day. How wonderful it is to have a day set aside to celebrate the influence and love received from fathers/father figures in our lives. This columnist was doubly blest to have a wonderful father and father to my children (also a dear father-in-law). The years without my father have made him even more precious through my memory scrapbook and the privilege of sharing the family with their father for 65 years has inspired the six of us with his love and wisdom. In fact, heart felt words from one of his children state that what makes a good dad is the perfect blend of strength, humor and wisdom. It’s knowing when to step back, step in, or just let a hug do all the talking. It’s being there to celebrate life’s good times and comfort the hard ones. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about being real and honest and sincere. It’s all of these things and a thousand more.
