We join citizens across the globe and celebrate the life and legacy of President George H.W. Bush, who was the son of a senator and the father of a president. President Bush, a patriot and humble servant, died Friday at the age of 94 years old and is remembered as the President who ended the Cold War. Wednesday, December 5th has been declared an official day of mourning. Our prayers are with his family.
Our prayers are with the family of Mrs. Jether Brown, widow of Attorney R. Jess Brown, who passed Friday at the home of her daughter in Jackson. Mrs. Brown, a loyal Legacy supporter, was a retired educator and humanitarian. We will miss her presence and support! Please keep her family in your prayers.
A beautiful Celebration of the Life of Hugh Marion Jones was held Saturday, December 1st at the Forest Baptist Church. Mr. Jones was remembered as a loving husband and father, faithful Christian, dedicated U.S. Navy Veteran and retired Band Director with the Jackson Public School. The presentation of Military Funeral Honor Guards was followed by Brother Joe Pate bringing the message. Jennifer Lowe musically shared “Great Is Thy Faithfulness,” and Brother Pate delivered the message. Our prayers are with the family, including his wife, Mrs. Cheryl Ann Higdon Jones, children Beth Hooper, Will (Joanne) Jones, and Meghan (Marcus), and grandchildren. Please keep the family in your prayers.
A beautiful Homegoing Celebration was held for Mrs. Katie Thompson Saturday, December 1st at W. F. Mapp Funeral Home Chapel with Apostle/Pastor Robert Johnson, (Real Life Church and House of Prayer) officiating. Mrs. Bettye Earby was the mistress of ceremony and other program participants were Clotee Lee and Pam Banks. Several other friends shared remarks. Our prayers are with her family including her sons, James, Troy, Larry, Jerry, and Chris. Please keep her family in your prayers.

We enjoyed the Christmas Program and Dinner at the Little Rock M. B. Church Saturday, December 1st where Rev. Sheldon Thomas is the pastor. Alderwoman Cynthia Slaughter Melton introduced her pastor and guest speaker, Lynch Chapel Pastor Shirley Wilder, who brought the Christmas message. She addressed the Perfect Gift and shared the real meaning of Christmas. Pastor Thomas presented “Joseph Speaks.” Program guide was Mattye Evans and other participants were Janifer Odom Gray, Joe Ann Pierce, Sandra Robinson, Elaine Hughes, Tina Sanders-Parker, and Jimmy Robinson who performed, via solo, “The Christmas Song.” It was a beautiful and colorful program. Following the program, a delicious dinner was served in the fellowship hall. What a wonderful expression of Christmas Joy!
Congratulations to the Alcorn Braves on their impressive victory over the Southern Jaguars of Baton Rouge. Alcorn defeated Southern in the SWAC Bowl 37-28. It was an impressive and historical event as this was the first SWAC match at Alcorn! Better yet, they won, and we are proud!! The team is preparing for the Big Game in Atlanta on December 15th!!!! Way to go!

We enjoyed the workshop, “A Guide for Grievers,” which was held at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gluckstadt Friday afternoon. Rev. Bob Willis was the moderator and speaker. Special thanks to Sister Pat Clemen for the excellent coordination.

David Clark, II which will be held Thursday, December 6th at 1:00 p.m. at the Scott County Courthouse — Circuit Court Courtroom. Judge Clark is retiring after 29 years as Chancellor for the Second Judicial District. In addition to serving as Chancellor, he was County Attorney for six years. Join us as we celebrate Judge Clark and his judicial legacy!
Residents of the W. L. Slaughter Subdivision will fellowship Sunday, December 9th with a Holiday Pot Luck Dinner which starts at 1:00 at the W. L. Slaughter Library. Residents are asked to bring their “special dish” or drink. Door prizes will be shared and a good time is promised. See you then!
