Please keep the family of Mrs. Cynthia Futch in your prayers. Mrs. Futch transitioned June 10th and was memorialized Saturday, June 15th at Holifield Funeral Home Chapel. Minister Willie Ealy officiated and delivered the eulogy. Our prayers are with her family especially her husband, Willie Futch, and daughter, India Campbell.
We enjoyed visiting with Mr. Andre’ Ramone Hughes, a 1994 graduate of Sebastopol High School, who was home attending his grandmother’s (Mrs. Johnnie Brown) funeral. We wish him well as he returns to San Antonio, TX!

Members of the Concord M. B. Church celebrated and recognized fathers and other nurturers during their Fathers’ Day Breakfast. The event was sponsored by the Mission Society. All who attended enjoyed the delicious home cooked meal. Rev. Henry Patrick is the pastor and enjoyed the special salute and breakfast.
Lynch Chapel U. M. Church women catered breakfast for their fathers, husbands, and friends and thanked them for their services. This pampering special event was held prior to regular church services. Congratulations fathers! Rev. Shirley Wilder is pastor.
The Cluster Club held its June 11th meeting at the MS Extension Center. Vice-president Carolyn Macon presided and she also provided refreshments. Members discussed proposed community projects and ongoing activities. There will not be a July meeting. The next meeting is scheduled for August. Members present were Carolyn Macon, Cynthia Melton, Ester Perry, Annie Stewart, Dorothy Strong and Connie Wash.
We enjoyed our Saturday visit with Mrs. Naomi Williams and other residents at the MS Care Center in Morton. We also appreciated the weekly message from Rev. Willie Jones.
The Third New Hope District Association held its 2019 Convention at the Third New Hope Baptist Association Building-I Newton from June 9 through June 14th. Officers of the Association Rev. J. R. Jennings (Moderator), Rev. Purvis Moore (1st Vice Moderator), Rev. William Flowers (2nd Vice Moderator), Rev. Anthony Robinson (Congress President), Sister Tammy Jones (Women’s President), and Sister Lozena King (Recording Secretary). Locals holding office in the Third New Hope District Congress of Christian Education are Second Vice President Rev. Henry Patrick, Youth Congress Director Debra Lowery, Recording Secretary Dennis Hayes, Treasurer Andrew Crudup, Assistant Finance Secretary Jomiski Nelson, and Music Director Kathern Qualls. The theme of the convention was “Envisioning the Future Exceptionally Sending Disciples for Christ.” Local churches holding membership in this Association are Concord, Little Rock, and Mount Moriah.
Alderwoman Cynthia Melton was among the guests at the Eric L. Carter Scholarship Banquet held Saturday, June 15th at the Reach One on One Building. It was a beautiful display of community support and recognition of our youth. Special thanks to Coach Greg Carter who presented scholarships to Forest High School students Ja’Marial Jones and Orlandrea McGee. Jones’ mother Ms. Arnetra Qualls and McGee’s parents Orlando and Celeste McGee were present and very pleased with their children’s recognition. The theme of this event was “Family Over Everything” and the program guide was Mrs. Tiffany Jones. Other program participants were Pastor Louvene Robinson, Ms. Amorie “Tootie” Gray, Ms. Rhonda Carter, Mrs. Kenya Gray, who provided encouraging words for the youth, Rev. Sheldon Thomas who shared motivational messages and Mrs. Vonda McClendon who shared final remarks. Mrs. Bobby Carter, mother of Coach Carter, Rhonda Carter and Vonda McClendon, was present and enjoyed the program. She especially enjoyed seeing her children re-investing in the community’s children. Congratulations scholarship recipients and the Carter family!
Mt. Moriah M. B. Church’s Women’s Day Program will be held July 14th at 2:00 p.m. where Mrs. Dorothy Smith, Scott County District Dean of Christian Education, will be the guest speaker. The theme is “God has a plan for you empowered by the Holy Spirit.” Crimson and cream are their colors and dinner will be served. Mrs. Annettte K. Mack is the chairperson and extends the invitation to our readers. Rev. Ralph James is the pastor.
