So proud of the Forest Elementary School Chess Team, who won first place in last week’s tournament sponsored by the East Central Talented and Gifted Association.
The Bearcats Chess team swept the field, including Aaron Baker’s win in all of his games in support of the team win. Congratulations Forest Bearcats Chess Team!
Thoughts and prayers are with the family of former Forest resident Dr. Mart McMullan, who passed away last Sunday, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Lyllian Lee McMullan, and their children, M’lee McMullan Williams (Kelley), Misti McMullan Crisler (Bob), and Mart McMullan (Holly), along with ten grandchildren.
Many of us remember Mart as a member of the very popular quartet, Accent, Forest High School and Mississippi College Student Body President, and outstanding heart surgeon. His hometown certainly turned out for services held Thursday, February 27 at Northminster Baptist Church in Jackson. Classmates from several states gathered in tribute.
Mitzi Breland went to Oxford on Wednesday for a visit with her aunt and cousin before being joined by Allen on Friday. They enjoyed being in Memphis on the weekend in the home of Jack, Megan and new grandson Mac.
Our sympathy to the family of Sue Croxton, who passed away last week. Her funeral was last Tuesday morning.
Gayla Steed of Olive Branch arrived on Monday for an overnight visit in the home of her parents Barbara and Lamar Gatewood.
Last Wednesday Ben McKibbens successfully underwent surgery to remove a spot at the top of his liver. Good results reported from tests; however a full report will not be received for a week. The family appreciates all your recent thoughts and prayers. He will remain in the Mobile Infirmary for several days.
His brother, Tom, is going on day 11 in a Boston hospital, following open heart surgery. We hope to hear he is able to go home soon!
Many remember Lorraine Brown Watkins, who graduated from Forest High School and worked for many years at the Bank of Forest. We were sorry to learn Lorraine passed away in Hattiesburg following a lengthy illness. Funeral services for her were held Saturday, February 29 at Ott and Lee Chapel in Forest with interment in the Homewood Methodist Cemetery. Rev. Reggie Tatum officiated. Music was provided by Irene Martin with Heather Hayman, soloist.
EDITOR’S NOTE: We are sad to report that Ben McKibbens passed away Monday night from complications following surgery.
