Congratulations to first time father Anderson Cooper, 52, upon the birth of his son, Wyatt Morgan Cooper, who was born last Monday, weighing seven pounds, two ounces. Local family members and old time friends were pleased to learn the baby was named for his late grandfather, Forest native Wyatt Cooper. Morgan came from his mother’s (the late Gloria Vanderbilt) side. Wyatt Cooper died when his son, Anderson, was ten years old.
We were so sorry to learn that Kitty Colbert sustained a fall at her home last Saturday. She was taken by ambulance to Baptist Hospital in Jackson and underwent surgery for a fractured hip on Sunday. She is now at Methodist Rehabilitation Center in Jackson undergoing physical therapy. Hope you’re much better soon, Kitty!!
Sympathy to the Gatewood family in the loss of Lamar’s and Barbara’s sister-in-law, Diane Gatewood, of Columbus. She was the wife of Forest native Dr. James Verner Gatewood, who preceded her in death. He was one of four Forest boys making up the Cavaliers quartet, who at the time were considered Baylor’a music department’s official quartet. Diane Ward (Gatewood) of Atlanta, Georgia, also a student at Baylor University, became the quartet’s accompanist, and the rest is history! She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, quite devoted to her church and also it’s music programs.
She is survived by her son, David Ward Gatewood and his wife, Tina; daughter, Leigh Anne Gatewood Carmichael and her husband, Steve; brother, Alec Ward and his wife, Patti; brother, Richard Ward and his wife, Daphene; and grandchildren, Harrison Carmichael, Hadley Carmichael, and Lucas Gatewood.
A private interment was held Wednesday, May 6, at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Stockbridge, Georgia. There will be a celebration of Diane’s life in Columbus as soon as it can be safely scheduled.
So sorry to learn of the passing of Mildred Loper, who was mentioned in our column when she celebrated her hundredth birthday in February. So glad both Bill and Johnny Loper were able to join their aunt for that special occasion.

History repeats itself. Came across this poem written in 1869, and re-printed during the 1919 Pandemic.
This is Timeless…
And people stayed at home
And read books
And listened
And they rested
And did exercise
And made art and played
And learne new ways of being
And stopped and listened
More deeply
Someone meditated, someone prayed
Someone met their shadow
And people began to think differently
And people healed.
And in the absence of people who
Lived in ignorant ways
Dangerous, meaningless and heartless.
The earth also begin to heal
And when the danger ended and
People found themselves
They grieved for the dead
And made new choices
And dreamed of new visions
And created new ways of living
And completely healed the earth
Just as they were healed.
