Special congratulations to grandparents Bob and Carol Johnston Lindley of Hattiesburg, upon the birth of a seven pound, eight ounce, 19 and 3/4 inch granddaughter, Cecelia Fay Lindley. The new addition is the great granddaughter of the late former Scott County Times editor and publisher, Earle and Fay Johnston. Mom, Dad and baby are doing great!
What do you do when Father’s Day and a special birthday for your mom happen together during a pandemic? Well, Kelly and Kaye Smith Hodges’ daughter Kim didn’t miss a beat! She called up Opera Memphis for a curbside performance and invited the whole neighborhood (to step outside their doors at the appropriate time) to enjoy the celebration with beautiful music. The couple also received memories to last a life time. The evening was a fantastic success! We join Kim Hodges in saying “Happy Father’s Day and Happy Birthday to the ‘best parents evah!’” Wonder what she will do next time for an encore?!!
We were saddened to learn of the home going of Lois Sanders Chambers, mother of ‘Butch’ and Nancy Chambers and Stuart and Mindy Chambers Ashton of King George County, Maryland. She was a grandmother of seven and great grandmother to 10. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Travis H. Chambers, Sr., and daughter, Beverley Chambers Phillips. Lois passed away last Wednesday, June 17, following an extended illness. Many “old timers” will fondly remember her from the Western Union office she ran for many years in Forest, as well as the popular family owned and operated Texaco Station.
Graveside services were held at Forest’s Eastern Cemetery, with Rev. David Slaughter, presiding. Our sincere sympathy to all the family.
Kitty Colbert enjoyed a weekend visit from her niece Linda Carr of Monroe.
