We were saddened to learn of the November 30 passing of beloved former Forest United Methodist Church pastor, John Case. He is survived by his wife, Ellen, three children and six grandchildren. Services were held in Jackson at Christ United Methodist Church, on December 4, and burial followed at Parkway Memorial Cemetery in Ridgeland. Forest was well represented at those services. A memorial service was also held at Oxford-University United Methodist Church in Oxford, December 6.
Last week Jan Risher Naudin of Lafayette, Louisiana, enjoyed a visit with her mom and dad, Gary and Nelda Risher, during her recent whirlwind book signing events. The Forest Municipal Library was a busy place when Jan gave a presentation of her new book, “Looking to the Stars from Old Algiers, and Other Long Stories Short,” followed by a book signing. From Forest Jan was to have book signings in at least three other communities before returning to her Louisiana home. Congratulations, Jan! Forest is proud of you!!
Several ladies from Forest attended the German Fest at the McElroy-Hoye House in Newton. Honni Copeland, who is from Germany, told of German Christmas customs. Then visitors enjoyed refreshments and toured the home to view the lovely trees and the many Christmas decorations. Beverly Rhodes, whose great-grandfather owned the home in the 1870's, discussed a few of the items from the McElroy family which were shown in the art workroom. Especially interesting to viewers was the black mourning fan which was used by Mrs. McElroy at Dr. McElroy's funeral. Among those from Forest who attended were Lorry BLackwell, Leola Meyer, Joyce Latham and Beverly Rhodes.
