The Oliver Triplett family enjoyed a recent visit to the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontario. In Quebec City, the Tripletts were guests in the Chateau Frontenac, which was the place where Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt met to finalize the Normandy Invasion during World War II.
Another interesting place visited was Montreal, the provincial capital of Quebec. They happened to dine at a restaurant which existed during and after the Civil War as a place of lodging and where Jefferson Davis resided for five years after the Civil War concluded.
Still another point of interest was Niagara-on-the-Lakes, noted for fine wines. In close proximity were the falls of Niagara, which were spectacular.
Congratulations to Raman and Jay Patel, who have recently returned from Hawaii, after an eight day trip with their three sons, their wives and two grandchildren. They enjoyed a belated 50th wedding anniversary celebration on the island of Maui and report having had a wonderful vacation.
Allen and Mitzi Breland spent last weekend in Oxford.
Carol Threadgill of Tupelo arrived on Thursday for a weekend visit in the home of her mother, Jean Palmer.
First time visitors of Irene Martin this week were Kayla, Cameron, Leyla and Dillon Waggoner.
Last week Piper Naudin and her mom, Jan Risher Naudin of Lafayette, Louisiana, enjoyed a visit with her parents, Gary and Nelda Risher in Forest.
We are delighted to continue to get encouraging reports from Barbara Gatewood who underwent surgery on Monday. Daughters Gayla Gatewood Kaye-Steed and her husband Shane, from Olive Branch, and Alicia Joyner of Tallahassee, Florida, were with their parents, Barbara and Lamar Gatewood, last week at Women’s Hospital at River Oaks in Flowood, where Barbara underwent breast cancer surgery. Our thoughts remain with Barbara and the family during this convalescent and recovery phase. Get well soon, Barbara!!
New Forest High School head football coach Ty Weems was the program for the Forest Rotary Club on Wednesday. Members enjoyed meeting him and getting a preview of the upcoming season. This year’s Forest/Morton game, which will be played on October 25th in Forest, should have an added element of rivalry for the Battle of the Golden Chicken since Ty was previously on the Morton football staff! Program chairman was Lee McCarty.
