By SHEILA SANDERS,

Busy, busy, busy time

Third graders throughout Mississippi are tested each spring to assess their level of competency in reading. What fabulous news to hear that Scott Central’s third graders had a 97 percent pass rate on the Reading Gate assessment.   Hats off to all these hard working students, their parents, current teachers as well as their teachers from kindergarten, first and second grade! As Henry Ford said, “If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself.”

Things have been busy, busy, busy over the last two weeks at Scott Central.  Along with completing state testing, there have been numerous banquets, tryouts for teams and squads, intramural games, plays, concerts, field day activities, AR celebrations, scholastic award programs, kindergarten graduation and the list goes on and on. This week, we will wrap up the school year and finish strong with final exams and the 2018 Commencement Exercises.

Music students of Irene Martin and Emily Baker were presented in recital on Saturday, May 19th at New Liberty Baptist Church in Morton.

The following tribute was written by Rev. Bobby McKay and printed in the this week’s church bulletin.  I have taken the liberty of sharing his words about my late father-in-law, Rev. Smith Sanders.

“The back page of the bulletin is usually reserved for message notes. Today, we recognize someone that while he delivered more than his share of sermons, most importantly; he lived them.  Bro. Smith Sanders was a giant of the faith and the embodiment of what it meant to be a godly man.  His legacy of prayer, kindness and wisdom will never expire.  Each of us at Harperville Baptist Church are better because we were able to know and worship with him. Our loss is great, but his reward is even greater.  In everything he did, Bro. Smith pointed others to Jesus. We can honor him best as we serve God and each other. Bro. Smith fought the good fight, finished the course, and kept the faith to the very end. There are two certainties today: One, you and I can be reunited with Bro. Smith Sanders again.  Repent of your sins, trust in Jesus, confess Him as Savior and Lord and you will be saved. That is the good news of the gospel of Christ. Secondly, this morning Bro. Smith is free from every pain, entanglement, and snare this world contains.  He is with his Jesus and his sweet Ruby.  And maybe, he can finally get his bowl of ice cream he has been wanting for quite some time.”
