Ornament swap is this Thursday
At the send-off rally for the Scott Central Rebels on Saturday morning, I saw a sign that read, “The best teams play in December.” That is absolutely true. A team that can excel through their regular season, qualify, and then win all of their playoff games has earned the distinction of being one of the best teams in the state.
However, this Scott Central team is more than just a talented athletic football team. I have taught, or am currently teaching, most of the players on the team. As Greg and I watched the game, I would tell him things about the players. Things like, “He is a really good kid… He is a great student… He is so polite and well-mannered... He is very smart… He works so hard in class.”
I found myself saying these things, over and over, about all the players. It occurred to me that not only are these great athletes, but perhaps, more importantly, they are young men of outstanding character. It is such an honor to be associated with these dedicated and determined young men. They are some of the “best” representatives of the youth of this state, both on and off the field.
The Harperville Baptist Church Women’s Ministry is currently conducting a jacket drive for Scott Central students. Anyone may donate new or gently used coats for ages 5-18. The drive will last until December 16th.
On December 19th, at 6:30 p.m. there will be a holiday meal in the HBC fellowship hall for the children who attend our Wednesday night services at the gym.
All ladies are invited to attend the HBC Women’s Ornament Swap this Thursday, December 6th at 6:30 p.m.
