Our ‘new normal’ will look different
For the first time since the pandemic began, Harperville Baptist Church held services in the sanctuary. We had a lot of visitors and members in attendance for our Baccalaureate Services to honor our high school graduates.
Those recognized were Cody Gilbert, Justus Harvey, Tabitha McDaniel, Reece Tillman, Jordan Waggoner and Danny Warren. Jason Tillman, Youth Pastor, conducted the services and he shared personal recollections about each graduate. He also delivered a message to challenge and encourage them as they move forward.
Graduates were all presented with Bibles from the church and they, with their families, were treated to a meal after the service.
Plans have recently been shared about the beginning of the new school year. Letters outlining the plans have been sent to all students’ school emails and have been posted on various school media accounts.
The plans are for classes to resume on July 27th. We will start with an abbreviated schedule for the first two weeks in which students will attend classes on a rotation schedule two days each week. This transitional period will allow everyone to gain a better grasp of social distancing guidelines and practices.
The plans are for all students to return full time on August 10th. A great deal of thought and planning has gone into this plan with the goal of protecting the health and safety of everyone, while resuming the education of our children. The schedule may change to follow the mandates provided by the Governor and the Mississippi Department of Education.
Slowly, but surely, we are making our way back. Our new normal will by necessity look very different than our lives before the pandemic. In fact, some aspects may never be the same, but if we can have the goal of taking personal responsibility for ourselves and be mindful to protect others, we can take back our lives.
