The New Bethel Church family showed much love to their Pastor, Rev. Vincent D. Hopkins and his wife, Mrs. Sabrita Hopkins, as they celebrated his Second Anniversary this past Sunday. Congratulations Rev. and Mrs. Hopkins!
Lynch Chapel Pastor, Rev. Shirley Wilder, delivered her message of forgiveness during Sunday’s services. Her theme was “You Cannot Move Forward Standing Still,” and she referenced the following concerns: We can’t forgive others because we can’t forgive ourselves; Judge not and you will not be judged; Are you ready to forgive those people who have deceived you; What obstacles are keeping you from forgiving your brothers and sisters; and Joseph, used as an example of forgiveness, had the love of God in his Heart. In her usual fashion, Rev. Wilder ended her sermon with the song, “Jesus Oh Jesus, Calling your Name.”
Rev. Sheldon Thomas delivered Sunday’s sermon to his congregation as they worshipped in their cars at the Little Rock M. B. Church parking lot. As usual, we enjoyed his message delivered by YouTube, and appreciated the prayer service provided by Deacons Tony Sanders and Greg Nicks. Before his message, Pastor Thomas led the choir with “Come Along and Get on this Train.” His theme was “Has America Lost the Backing of God?” Rev. Thomas referenced the confusion, negativity, and chaos in today’s world. He reminded us to get our mouths and souls in order so that we might assist in bringing order to this world. In closing, Rev. Thomas reminded us that we are standing on the Promises of God, rather than the Premises of God. According to Rev. Thomas, this sermon was Part I of his message. Looking forward to hearing Part II next week.
We join others across the world, nation, state and county in celebrating Juneteenth, June 19th, which is the day all slaves in American were declared free. It is also celebrated as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day and Cel-Liberation Day. It commemorates June 19, 1865 when Union general Cordon Granger read federal orders in Galveston, Texas, that all previously enslaved people in Texas were free. Even though the Emancipation Proclamation formally freed slaves almost two and a half years earlier, Texas slaves were not informed of their freedom until Juneteenth, 1865.
