Happy 99th birthday to Mrs. Ester Robinson who celebrated her special day Sunday, July 29 with family and friends in Mendenhall. She was surprised by her two daughters who live out of state and they joined other family members for the special occasion. Special greetings to Mrs. Robinson.
Congratulations to Zetas and Sigmas from across the State who held their First Blue and White Family Reunion this past weekend at Roosevelt State Park. More than 600 fraternity/sorority members from across the state participated in this inaugural event. They really enjoyed this Blue and White Family Reunion especially the fellowship, fun under the tents, and browsing the vendor tables and booths. Thanks to Zeta Debra Crudup Lowery for the notice and congratulations to Nu Pi Zeta Sorority members for their assistance in coordinating this Blue and White Family Reunion.
Members of the Parker-Johnson Family enjoyed their Reunion recently held at Farris Park in Morton, MS Civil Rights Museum, and Community Center in Mendenhall. They also enjoyed a delicious fish fry meal and hospitality at the home of Mrs. Cassandra Parker Flanagan in Morton.
The Lowery Family Reunion was held Friday and Saturday (7/26-28/19) in Morton at Roosevelt State Park where participants travelled from AL, FL, and GA. It was a wonderful event and is held every two years. Local members of the Lowery Family are Elmer and Debra Lowery and Roy and Annie Lowery.
Members of the Union Grove M. B. Church family celebrated their pastor’s 16th Anniversary Sunday, July 21st. Expressions of appreciation to Pastor Rochelle and Mrs. Becky Wright were shared by members and others in attendance. Rev. Dr. Anderson was the guest speaker. Other program participants were Rev. Perry Fletcher, Larry Brewer, Paula Lyles, Ruby Lewis, Nikita Loper and Robert Williams. Congratulations and best wishes!!
Constance Slaughter Harvey and grandson, James “Tre” Burwell visited New York City last week. While “NaNa” attended CLE sessions during the National Bar Association Convention at the Sheraton New York Time Square, James enjoyed the sites including the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Center, World Trade Building, M&M Candy World, and Central Park.
We enjoyed the Bettye Mae Jack Backpack event held at the Bettye Mae Jack Middle School Saturday. Special thanks to entities that supported this annual project and kudos to Brother Scott Mangum for his coordination of this service.
The 15th Annual Slaughter Library/Legacy Prepping 4 School Drive will begin at 8:00 and run through 4:00 Thursday, August 1 at the Slaughter Library. School supply applicants must show need and priority is given to parents who are unemployed. This Drive is in memory of Legacy Change Agent William Brown.
