The Way of God
Although the way of God does not exist on any road maps, it exists. The way of God is only for believers who are willing to live knowing Him and learning what God has for us in Him. There are those who tend to confuse it with what conscience dictates, believing that He has spoken to them. That opinion is contradictory when in reality they sin habitually; though God can and does use mistakes, He will never lead anyone down a wrong path.
We all sometimes sin in a conscious way, therefore nothing and no one will indicate that it has been God we have obeyed. It is evident that the individual’s conscience compels us to believe that we are totally independent of God and we can do what comes naturally. In spiritual reality, it cannot and should not be. For that reason He works in close connection with our carnal desires but these desires should never be confused with being inspired by the Holy Spirit. Those accustomed to saying that they live with a quiet conscience while living in their sin are actually believing that the personal conscience is god.
There is another extreme with people who have a refined conscience and who live nervously always expecting the worst. They also have not learned to walk in the difficult path of God and do not let Jesus Christ guide them and help to free them from the bondage of their sins, for which obedience, faith and trust in Him is required. In the sacred scriptures we find: “The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in for eternal live.” (1 Timothy:15-15 ESV)
When we enter the path of God we are moving slowly according to the speed that we decide. We let our conscience be educated and this is where our faith and the Holy Spirit will do their work. Our eyes will see the same landscape but in a different way. It is as if we change our lens to our “mental” camera and everything will seem more spacious and defined and at the same time we go to depths that the environmental darkness did not allow us to observe.
Imagine an old photographic camera with a highly sensitive film revealing things that we did not even think existed. So by praying we can do the same as David, “Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name. I give thanks to you O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever. (Psalm 86:11-12 ESV)
Sometimes we lose the road and also the benefits that derive from it, but we can return to continue the route indicated by the signs. We only lack firm confidence and confidence that God never fails us. “Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way.” (Psalm 25:8-9 ESV)
May God bless you
