To Kill
The advance of audiovisual media makes it possible for virtually everyone on the planet to observe violence on a daily basis. So mass murders are not only news but are part of programming in film and television. Children are part of the violent market with a majority of cartoons that do not teach well. On the other hand, protected by an old second amendment to the constitution, we all have the right to acquire and possess one or many firearms including some that should only be used by military forces and not by citizens in civilian life. All this makes us live a reality in which, for the moment, there is no discussion or possibilities to change.
We have become accustomed to knowing about school shootings, racist armed groups that believe themselves to be supreme, and other crimes that many believe is normal. As Christians, we must be aware that crime and the killing of others is a serious sin that we cannot accept. The silence with which many live has made them sinners of omission. If we are believers and express honor and respect for God, we cannot be silent in the face of the murders that have been happening in schools for some years now.
If the world likes the violence that is shown in the media and in the social network, we have to oppose it. The law that allows weapons in the wrong hands needs to be changed. It probably will not be the total solution, but it is clear that there would be a drop in the possibility of the killings.
“If someone sins against a man, God will mediate for him, but if someone sins against the Lord, who can intercede for him? But they would not listen to the voice of their father, or it was the will of the Lord to put them to death.” (1 Samuel 2:25 ESV). This means that our generations should not turn a blind eye to the permissiveness, shown by the political powers, of the use of assault weapons or other weapons. That is an offense to the law of God Who prohibits killing. No one is more abandoned than those degenerates who have been abandoned to do what their evil instincts command them.
The world is the sower and we should not become fertile soil for the seeds of weeds because good seed will have no space or light to germinate. This means that we should not protect and support those who are accustomed to being violent, to ignore killings and hate, ignoring what God has commanded us to do. Every day it becomes more evident that there is a misunderstood freedom that has become debauchery. Materialism and the love of money are prevailing. Remember what Jesus said to his disciples; “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God, but for others they are in parables, so that they may not understand.’ ‘Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. The ones along the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from theirs hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved.” (Luke 8:10-12 ESV) You believe in God but little is done to prove it. The gospel asks us to receive Christ as Prince and Savior but for those who receive the grace of God in vain, His condemnation will be fearsome.
It is regrettable to observe that the political power has vested interests and it is customary to give excuses not to change the laws that represent a problem for the Christian coexistence to which we all aspire. There is no peace when spiritual storms become permissive and common. “And they went and woke him, saying, ‘Master, Master, we are perishing!’ And he awoke and rebuked the wind and the raging waves, and they ceased, and there was a calm. He said to them, ‘Where is your faith?’ And they were afraid, and they marveled saying to one another, ‘Who then is this, that he commands even winds and water, and they obey him?’” (Luke 8:24-25 ESV)
