The power of suffering
No human being is free from the power of suffering. Nobody can ignore it because it presents itself with a different intensity in each one depending on the causes. The important thing is to know how to face it according to the faith we profess. Christians know and are aware of how much Jesus Christ suffered. At the same time He knew how to face it because He accepted with love and obedience the great mission that his Father had assigned him to forgive our sins and thus save us.
Jesus knows about our sufferings, both corporal and spiritual. He knows that our sorrowful soul can serve as an instrument when we face God face to face. “O Lord, rebuke me not in your anger, nor discipline me in your wrath. Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing; heal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled. My soul also is greatly troubled. But you, O Lord how long?” Psalm 6:1-3 ESV. David in these verses is mindful that every affliction of the body can be tolerable when we have comfort for our soul. If our spirit is broken for any reason we should expect to awaken our conscience in the same way as David gave his testimony in the verses cited.
However, there are people who, when they suffer, turn against God. They do not confess in Jesus and lose any hope. Those personas do not realize or ignore that God does not make us suffer because He is not the cause of suffering or pain, He only allows it and for the one who has faith helps him to get ahead. God is love.
In our lives when we come to love another person and she does not correspond to us we usually suffer, but with God it will never happen because He loves us with such intensity that we can not understand at all. Even more, we live in a violent, aggressive, prejudiced, and lying world where hatred dominates many and leads many to distance themselves from God. They do not understand that if God is love, alone in Him we can find peace, joy and mercy. “you who test the minds and hearts, O righteous God! My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart.” Psalm 7 :9b -10 ESV.
When we face pain we should be whole. We face the power of suffering with prayers putting everything in the hands of God. Our faith must be true and always be aware that no one can deceive God. Let us appeal to our rationality to go to the bottom of the cause or causes of our suffering and with faith ask the Lord for the necessary wisdom to overcome pain.
Nothing is easy but without a doubt the peace of God that overcomes all understanding will make us find the needed comfort.
May God bless you.
