Divided Society
Like a sector of the American population of this state, I feel very affected by the coordinated operation of the forces of immigration agents in some chicken processing plants in Mississippi. Immigration agents were used to comply with an inhuman law. This law is being used for electoral purposes by the political sector that governs us to satisfy the population that detests immigrants and supports many authorities. The news was spread internationally but few are aware of the problems they caused not only to undocumented families, but also to the economy of the towns they live in. The domino effect includes taxes, lower chicken production, lower consumption in local markets, and farmers who will be partially affected.
The division in the Christian environment has also surfaced where only one sector turned to a couple of churches to help those in need. There is an important sector of this society that has only shown total apathy and indolence ignoring Christian principles of mercy and love.
Contempt, racial hatred, envy, resentment and discord should not have a place in a Christian society. It is as if the members of the same body do not care for each other or fight each other. “For just as the body is one and has many members, and all members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body — Jews or Greeks, slaves or free — and all were made to drink of one Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 12:12-13 ESV
We remember that Jesus had the experience of not being accepted by most of the temple Jews, and the priests did not hesitate to persecute Him and handle a crowd that ended in His surrender and subsequent crucifixion. That spiritual blindness of the Romans is the same as the politicians have. Few want to legalize the undocumented. Most of them work hard in places where most citizens avoid working or don’t want to. While companies continue to produce with low-cost labor, and with good profits.
In this pre-election moment, citizens are emotionally manipulated, who often ignore their own moral and spiritual principles when they vote. “Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds. Thay are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart.” Ephesians 4:17-18 ESV
Christians depend on each other; Everyone has to wait and receive help from others when there is need. That is when the testimony of Christian life and unity is present. We remember that in the hereafter only those who have been faithful to the task entrusted to us by Christ will be approved, and the most diligent in the work of their Master. “So also faith by itself, if it is does not have works is dead.” James 2:17 ESV
May God bless you.
