Benefit set for Feb. 29
Midway M. B. Church celebrated Black History last Sunday. The majority of the people wore African attire. Patty Odom was in charge of the program. Attorney Constance Slaughter was the guest speaker. She has acquired many firsts. Her presentation was so informative and interesting. Her father the late W. L. Slaughter started being the principal at north Scott High School in 1964.
A traditional soul food menu was served. All items on the menu were homemade. A list of some of the menu; Black eyed peas, field peas, collard greens, butterbeans, potatoes, candied yams, baked chicken, neck bones, chicken and dumplings, baked ham, pork roast, sweet tea, jelly cake, coconut cake, apple dumplings, cornbread muffins and squares and water.
Midway Church will start fasting February 26 until Easter. Lord give us strength.
My son Rodney Stowers will be included in the 10 people inducted into the Scott County Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, April 18th, at Livingston Preforming Arts Center, Roosevelt State Park in Morton. Tickets will go on sale April 1 at the Bank of Forest, Community Bank, Bank of Morton, Priority Bank and Scott County Broadcasting Network on Highway 80 in Lake. There will be a Benefit given in honor of our past First Lady, Sister Vernita Whittington on February 29th at 6:00 p.m. at Jones Chapel M. B. Church. Rev. Kelly Miller is the pastor.
Learning with a Snack is a tutoring program at the Midway Freewill Baptist Church. After School Feeding and Tutoring Program for ages 5–15, every Monday and Wednesday of each week from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. All students are welcome.
