50th Year Ward Family Extravaganza held
this past weekend
Oh, what a wonderful time we had at church this past Easter. Our services started at 6:00 a.m. with Minister Wesley Griffin delivering the message. Then we had an exceptional breakfast prepared by Delie Shepard, Annie Stowers and Alice Hawkins. Others who helped with breakfast were Dr. Lorraine Dozier, Patty Odom and Sandra McClendon.
Sunday School was wonderful following breakfast, then the children did such an amazing and wonderful presentation of the Easter Program. Following the program the little ones 15 and under went on the exploration of all times, The Easter Egg Hunt.
To some, Easter Celebrations are pagan, but to me as an educator of many years, there are many ways to teach a subject. Teaching children the meaning of the Risen Savior, how he died, and why he was crucified, and how even in those days many years ago, how someone you thought you could trust, betrayed you, in your time of need. So much is taught in and about life and human nature today, in your Observations of Easter.
The J. B. and Pauline Green Ward, 50th Year Annual Family Extravaganza was held this past weekend. Those who were in attendance for this year were: Helen Ward Clayhiggs and husband Willie of Byram, MS, Wesley Ward of Jackson, Johnnie Harold Ward and wife Drexella of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Brenda Ward of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Kimberly Ward Moore of Jackson, Latrina Ward Gray and husband Juan of Terry, Travis Ward of Jackson, Annie Ward of Forest, Fredia Ward of Forest (Midway), Janell Ward of Forest (Midway) and over twenty grandchildren, DeWaun Walker, Audrianna Walker, Marilyn Gales and great grandchildren. Sympathy to the Strong and Handford families in the passing of Ruby Strong Handford. She was the wife of the late Horace D. Handford. The sister of John Lee Strong, Ollie Strong and Mattie L. Strong. The daughter of the late Rufus Strong and Ida Spivey Strong. She had lived a glorious life of 98 years. Her services were held Easter Sunday at Midway M. B. Church with her interment in the church cemetery. Her husband had been laid to rest there. Rev. Wesley Griffin delivered the eulogy. Delie Shepard was the Mistress of Ceremony. Patsy Strong Bland read the obituary. Deacon Tevin Nickols sang, “I won’t complain”. Glenda Strong McKee gave remarks. Her niece, a Scott Central Attendance graduate, Carmen Strong oversaw making the arrangements.
