Contratulations Graduates!
Congratulations to another college graduate: Chiquita McClendon Myers graduated from Jackson State University with a MAT Degree (Masters of Arts in Teaching). She had received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Mississippi State University. She is presently working as a Social Studies Teacher at Scott Central Attendance Center teaching 7th Grade U. S. History.
Chiquita Myers: spouse of Tavares Myers; daughter of Sandra McClendon and Ben Lee, maternal grandchild of Ben Lee and the late Gloria McClendon; paternal grandchild of Maggie Ickom and the late Billy Ickom.
Again other colligate graduates are Maha Bradford Shun Williams, Neola Washington Jackson and Laquisha McKee Boone whose husband is Eric Boone.
Tracey McClendon Williams and Duke are home form California for son Shun’s graduation from Ole Miss.
Our high school graduates are, Malik Griffin and Jordan Strong.
Malik Griffin, is graduating from Leake Central High School. He is the son of Rev. Wesley and Marilyn Denise McMurty Griffin. Paternal grandparents are Paul and Zella Griffin and maternal grandparents are Lee and May Joyce McMurtry. He plans on attending Mississippi Valley State University in the fall.
Jordan Xavier Strong is graduating from Scott Central Attendance Center. He is the son of Ronald Donnell and Sondra Stewart Strong, maternal grandparents are Iva Joe and Bettye Hughes Stewart, paternal grandparents are Billy and Minnie Pearl Evans Strong. Jordan plans on attending Belhaven University playing football.
Scott Central 6th Grade Commencement was last Thursday, May 11th. Ours were: Kaysha Banks, Marty Cox, Justin McBeath, Cameron Jones and Terrance McClendon. Kaysha Banks is the daughter of Tamara Banks and Koby Kennedy. The grandchild of Pam Harper Banks and the late James Banks and paternal parents are Sylvia Banks Kennedy and B. H. Kennedy. Marty Cox is the son of Annette Cox and Dewayne Cox. Maternal grandparents and Mandy McBeath and the late Jerry McBeath Sr. Justin McBeath is the son of Jerry McBeath, Jr. and Chenelle Cole McBeath. His grandparents are Mandy McBeath and the late Jerry McBeath, Sr. and Betty Weidman. Cameron Jones is the son of Chelsey McClendon and Darrel Jones. He is the grandson of W. C. “Man” McClendon and Constance Denson McClendon. Terrence McClendon is the son of Thomas McClendon and the grandson of Effort and Mary Ann “Joe” McClendon.
Sympathy is given to the Patrick Family in the passing of Joe “Joe Phat” Patrick on last Friday from an accident on Kings Road. His arrangements are incomplete at my press time.
Sympathy is given to the Spivey Family in the passing of Dorothy Spivey. Her arrangements are incomplete at my press time also.
Mother’s Day was celebrated at the church last Sunday. Chesey McClendon gave gifts. Those receiving gifts were Alice Hawkins, First Lady Venita Whittington and Feral Nicks. Leslie Ross chaired the Mother’s Day Luncheon. Leslie Ross and Marty Shepard prepared the baked beans. Thomas Wilson and George Beamon grilled the chicken. D’Arcy Stowers baked the desert cakes. LaBoris Jewaun Ross donated the sodas and water. Jerry McBeath donated the ice. Daryll Stowers donated the chicken. Servers were the men and boys of the church. It was a nice luncheon, and everyone enjoyed the food.
The Christian Education Chairman Dr. Locord Wilson and the Vacation Bible School Director, Patty Odom is asking everyone who plan to attend Vacation Bible School to fill out a registration form. Supplies must be ordered.
The Century Family Reunion has had some changed in their venue. Friday’s registration and the Meet and great with supper will be held at Midway Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Registration will start at 5:00pm until 6:30p.m. Saturday Night events will be held at Reach One on One in Forest. Picnic will be Sunday at Roosevelt State Park 12pm – 4:pm, June 24, 2018. We are gearing up for great attendance. The Reunion is at home where all the people originated from that started the reunion in the Sixties.
