Scholarships Awarded
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Nu Pi Zeta Chapter’s Scholarship, Youth, and Z-Hope Recognition Program was held last week. The Awards program location was changed to Forest Service Center. Community service recognition was awarded to Thomas Wilson, Attorney Constance Harvey, Carolyn Knowles, and Posthumously to Richard Rogers of Lake. Amicae of the Year was awarded to Sylvia Kennedy. Parent of the Year was awarded to Valer Woodson. Zeta of the Year was awarded to Jasmine Page.
Nu Pi Zeta Chapter awarded three scholarships: Cameo Odom of Scott Central Attendance Center. She is the daughter of Jerome and Toni Blue Odom and the granddaughter of Mable Odom and the late Sammy Odom and Annie Sue Butler Blue Hughes; Kamaya Walker of Sebastopol High School. She is the daughter of Tiffany Jones; NatTya Smith of Scott Central Attendance Center. She is the daughter of Natasha Smith and the granddaughter of Wayne and Dorothy Smith.
Midway Freewill Baptist Church will host a meeting with a representative of the Census Bureau on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The representative will be there to discuss important issues concerning the Census and job possibilities concerning the 2020 Census.
Midway M. B. Church Graduation Program was held on May 19th. The MC’s for the program were Courtney McClendon and his cousin Chelsey McClendon. There were three honorees: Martez Nickols of Scott Central Attendance Center. He plans to attend East Central Community College then going on to University of Southern Mississippi, majoring in dance. He is the son of Brenda Nickols and the late Rev. Sylvester Nickols, and the grandson of Mandy McBeath and the late Jerry McBeath. His paternal grandparents were the late Ollie and Lillie Nickols; Jamiyah Bloodsaw of Scott Central Attendance Center. She plans to attend East Central Community College and then Alcorn State University getting a degree in Nursing. She is the daughter of Joelyn Lewis, and the granddaughter of Jacqueline Bobbitt; Sabrina Bobbitt of Lake High School. She is the daughter of Shell Bobbitt and granddaughter of Mary “Joe” and Effort McClendon.
Nathalie Shepard enjoyed her birthday last weekend motoring down to Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Her aunt Judy and cousin Dede flew down from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania into Pensacola where they were picked up and returned back to the hotel. A glorious time was had at the beach, swimming pool and the night activities at the hotel. Like all good things, it will come to an end. Those that helped her celebrate her weekend in Florida were: Marty Shepard, Xhavier Shepard, Alexiah Shepard, Delie Shepard, Charles McClendon, Leslie Ross. Eric Ross, Josiah Ross, Dayton Ross Carter, Judith “Judy” Hernandez and Adeed “Dede” Pomales.
Graduating from Belhaven University was Vickie McBeath Tate with a degree in Business. She is a shining star of an example of achieve a goal if you want to. She retired from the military with over 20 years of service, before finishing her degree. She is the daughter of Mandy McBeath and the late Jerry McBeath.
Lone Pilgrim Youth Banquet will be held at Pilgrim Rest M. B. Church in Carthage on May 25th. Dr. Dewayne Bloodsaw is the pastor of Pilgrim’s Rest M. B. Church.
Sympathy to the Wash and Sanders Family in the passing of Louise Wash Sanders. Her services are tentatively scheduled for Saturday at Mt. Olive M. B. Church of Lake. Mapp Funeral Home is entrusted with her services.
Sympathy to the Robertson Family in the passing of Odessa “Tooley” Robertson. She will be eulogized at New Bethel M. B. Church, Saturday at 11:00 am. Visitation will be Friday 12:00 pm until 6:00 pm. at Evans Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery. The repast will be at New Bethel Church. Her arrangements are entrusted to Evans Memorial Funeral Home.

Midway M. B. Church Vacation Bible School will start May 28- 31 at 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Dr. Locord Wilson is Dean of Christian Education. Patty Odom is Vacation Bible School Director. You may get registration form by contacting Patty Odom.
