Traditional Soul Food to be served

Midway M. B. Church will be celebrating Black History this month.  For the entire month we will wear our African American attire or any attire our ancestors wore. On the 4th Sunday which is February 23rd during regular service we will celebrate Black History with a program. Patty Odom is in charge of the program. 

A traditional soul food menu will be served.  All items on the menu will be homemade. No commercial prepared foods will be served.

Honoring those who finished with terminal degrees from Midway Vocational High School, North Scott High School and Scott Central Attendance Center are: Dr. Locord Wilson Ph.D., Dr. Aurby Della Odom White DM, Psy.D. My son Rodney Stowers will be included in the 10 people inducted into the Scott County Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, April 18th, at Livingston Preforming Arts Center, Roosevelt State Park in Morton. Tickets will go on sale April 1 at the Bank of Forest, Community Bank, Bank of Morton, Priority Bank and Scott County Broadcasting Network on Highway 80 in Lake.  More information is available at the website: www.scottcountysportshalloffame.org.

There will be a Benefit given in honor of our past First Lady, Sister Vernita Whittington on February 29th at 6:00 p.m. at Jones Chapel M. B. Church.  Rev. Kelly Miller is the pastor. 

Andrea Johnson and her family suffered a house fire last Friday night. Remember the family in your prayers.

Drs. Lorrain Dozier DVM and Lanee Riley MD spent four days cursing the Bahamas docking at Coco Bay. Their Facebook pictures indicate that they had a great time.

Sympathy to the Beamon and Odom family in the passing of Curtis “Curt” Beemon (Not a typo his legal name is spelled Beemon, the rest of his family name is spelled Beamon). His grandparents were Early and Ellen Beamon. His services are incomplete at my deadline. His services and interment will be held in Milwaukee.

Sympathy to the Hayes and Thomas Families in the passing of Theopolis Hayes. His services were last Sunday at Little Rock M. B. Church.  His son Rev. Sheldon Thomas is the pastor.  Arrangements were entrusted to Mapp Funeral Home.

Sympathy to the Harris Family in the passing of Calvin Harris.  His services were last Saturday.  Arrangements were entrusted to Mapp Funeral Home.

Sympathy to the Johnson Family in the passing of Coressa Johnson. Her services were held last Saturday. Arrangements were entrusted to Mapp Funeral Home.

Sympathy to the Townsend and Burks families in the passing of Denise “Peavie” Townsend. Her services were last Saturday, at Harmony M. B. Church.  Arrangements were entrusted to Holifield Funeral Home.       

Learning with a Snack is a tutoring program at the Midway Freewill Baptist Church. After School Feeding and Tutoring Program for ages 5 – 15, every Monday and Wednesday of each week from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  All students are welcome.
