Announcements: The Senior Coffee Hour at Morton Public Library will resume on Friday, March 6 beginning at 10 a.m. Refreshments are served and a craft will be demonstrated and made by those present for a “take home” gift.
Annual Lenten Lunches will be held at Morton United Methodist Church beginning on Wednesday, March 4 and all following Wednesdays during the season of Lent. Pastor, Shelia Cumbest extends an invitation to all in observance of Holy Lent — a time of intentional prayer, fasting and giving sacrificially. Services will be brief (meals included) but meaningful. Scheduled speakers/entertainers: March 4-Rev. Kathy Price, pastor at Alta Woods UMC; March 11, Maura McIntosh Fields (former Morton resident while her father Rev. David McIntosh served Morton UMC); March 18, Rev. The Norris Quilters Club wishes to invite the public to join the residents of MS Care Center of Morton in viewing the beautiful Quilts crafted by the members. The exhibit will begin at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 12.

The first program for “Quick Bites” in March is “Making Plans for Spring & Summer” presented by Lynette McDougal, Instructor at Plant and Soil Sciences-MSU. These programs are offered on Thursdays at the Scott County Extension Service facility, 230 South Davis Street, Forest, from 12 noon-1 p.m. These educational programs are free, but pre-registration is required by calling 601-469-4241.
The 2020 Induction Ceremony, Scott County sports Hall of Fame is scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday, April 18 at the Livingston Performing Arts Center-Roosevelt State Park. Congratulations to: The MHS One A’Chord Show Choir on earning a rating of “Excellent” and receiving the “River Pride Award” during competition held at Pearl River Community College. Under the direction of Ethan Martin, this is the debut of the first show choir in the history of Morton High School.
To: Senate Pages, representing Morton, invited by Senator Tyler McCaughn to serve. Tyler Williams, Era and Ian Kennedy, MHS. These students have the opportunity to run errands for officials and Senate staff. They express appreciation for having this opportunity.

Travelin’ visitin’ and such: Morton MHV members attended the Scott County Leader training/County Council meeting on Tuesday, February 26 where the 2020 Scott County MHV Fashion Revue was held and Natasha Haynes, Agent from Rankin County gave and interesting program on India: the customs, culture, food ingredients and some of the many and varied religions practiced by natives there.
Morton MHV members, also, enjoyed their annual Friendship Luncheon held in the Lower Classroom of Alfreda/Carl Harris Lodge-Roosevelt State Park. Entertainment was provided by Bro. Marty Wilson, pastor of First Baptist church of Morton, with guitar/vocal selections of favorite country celebrities and favorite hymns. A special note of appreciation goes out to Pam Holman and her staff for the beautiful appropriate table decorations and the delicious meal.
Mark and Lee Ann Palmer report having a delightful brief “get-away” trip with an overnight stop in Memphis. They lodged in the lovely Briggs Bed and Breakfast in Hardy, Arkansas with beautiful scenery overlooking a serene crystal clear river, and visited the Cherokee Village area and some interesting waterfalls. On their return they located the Friendship Cemetery, Moscow, Tennessee, where several of her ancestors, her Great grandfather, Benjamin Wardlow, is buried along with other relatives of her mother, Martha Waggoner Livingston’s family. They include an aunt, Ann Brown and aunt Rebecca Wardlow. In their travels they also, passed near the Hound Dog Ranch.
