Congratulations to: Suzanne Shepherd Easterling on being featured in the Southern Pine Newsletter “Today” as a valued employee of 38 years. She is the daughter of James Pollard and Ella Mary Shepherd, the wife of Randy Easterling and the mother of Casey.
To: Missiy Coker Wiggins, PhD a computer science professor at Mississippi College, on being the recipient of this year’s Carol West Faculty Advocate Award. The honor is named for the late MC Law professor, a distinguishes faculty member on campus in downtown Jackson (died in December 2011 at age 67). Missy, a graduate of Morton High School, states that she knew Carol well as a friend and colleague. Chris Maggio, chair of the Department of Engineering, Computer Science and Physics, commends her services. He states that the faculty made an excellent choice to recognize Dr. Wiggins for the great and well-deserved honor. The wife of Glenn Wiggins, she lives in Polkville where she is active in First Baptist Church there.
To: Thomas “Snacks” Lee, student basketball manager at Jackson State University on bringing an ESPY Award to Mississippi, based on his last second 3 pointer from the center court (coming off the bench to do so). This is not only the first ESPY for JSU but, also, for the entire SWAC Conference.
Prayers and concern for: Ella Kate Foster (4 year old needs financial assistance, a “Go-Fund-Me” page has been set up), Joy smith (request of former Morton resident, Betsy Patterson), Billy Mack Miles, Linda French Hatch, Ryleigh Sayer (great niece of Liz Nash), Rory Bridges, Cliff Richardson of Newton (request of Florence Measels) and continued concern for Annie Clyde Marler.
Sympathy to the families of: Leroy Callahan, Jr., Mary Ann McLin, Teresa Ann Rogers, Lois Chambers, James H. Hester, Jo Ann Rimes, Glenda Walker Chambers, Justin Boyd (grandson of Florence Measels), Dolly Ann Watkins Mooney, and Jimmy Prestage.
Travelin’, visitin’ and such: Even with the isolation warning still in effect, it was evident that many children chose to visit their fathers/father figures over the weekend. For those celebrating in homes, local eateries or traveling for a time together, we are thankful for the effort put forth and offer travel blessings for those returning home.
Sittin’ and thinkin’: Following so many reports of sad and distressing events in the media, thought these little “funnies”, which strikes this reporter as appropriate for me, at least, would tickle your funnny bone, too. Author unknown
Housecleaning
I find that I have reached the stage that is commonly known as “ripe old age”, and I’m called each day to decide the fate of things I’ve allowed to accumulate.
The things I don’t need I can always find, from two to a dozen of every kind; but what I do need escapes the eye until I return from the store with another buy.
And what is left over, being sly as a fox I know I may need, so it goes in a box. This is surely the reason I’ve run out of space with bundles and boxes all over the place.
From morning till evening, I spend every day just trying to find something I’ve laid away. Some comfort I find: it isn’t all bad, for I find many things I didn’t know I had.
So day after day I go round and round, continually losing more than I’ve found. I must change my program before I am sunk or just disappear, submerged in my junk.
