Announcements: We Care Missions Food Distribution dates for May are Friday, May 11 and Friday, May 25 from Fellowship Hall of Morton United Methodist Church, 29 Church Street, with distribution beginning at 10 a. m.-12 noon.
The Donor Coach of Mississippi Blood Services will be holding a community blood drive located at Fred’s, Morton, on May 8 from 12 noon - 6 p.m. Donors will receive a T-Shirt.
Calligraphy Classes, learning the art of decorative writing, instructed by Diane Herring, will be offered at Excel Learning Center beginning on Tuesdays, May 22, 29 and June 5 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. The fee covering all materials needed is $25. and should be received by May 17. A word of appreciation goes out to the many committee members and volunteers who made the Annual Rush Hospital Health Fair, Women’s Career Luncheon, the MHS 50th School Reunion, The Scott County Sports Hall of Fame Induction ceremony, The Honors Banquet for local high school graduates, Dr. Howard Clark’s Retirement Reception, the Mayors Prayer Breakfast and Morton Day in the Park possible and very successful. The citizens of the Morton trade area are blessed with exceptional talent and work ethics that provide these events for our enjoyment.
Congratulations to: The MHS Baseball Team on advancing to the next round of the MHSAA 3-A Baseball State Tournament by defeating the Raleigh Lions 11-1 and 10-2.
To: Volunteers, Roy and Elmer Lowery, Andre Hollis and Jody Matheny of the “Bound to Excell” Mentoring group on being recognized for their program that works with students in elementary, middle, and high schools at Morton and Scott Central. These men received a certificate of recognition from First Lady of Mississippi, Deborah Bryant issued by the Mississippi Commission for Volunteer Services accompanied by a letter of appreciation for their program.
To: Chandler Pennington of Columbia on receiving her BS degree in Nursing from William Cary University with a 4.0 GPA. She is the granddaughter of MHS graduate Bonnie Fay Chestnut Ivy and the late Woodrow Ivy of White Oak.
To: Taryn Grace Tabor of Hernando on being inducted into the Sigma Beta Tau Nursing Honorary at Delta State. She is the daughter of MHS graduate Tammie Roland Tabor and Tim Tabor.

Travelin’, visitin’ and such: Those Morton MHV Club members attending the April Leader Training/County Counsel meeting at the MSU-Scott County Extension Service facility were: Betsy Comfort, Bobbie Hodges, Cathy Johnson, Frisky Roland, Shirley Sawyer, Judy Stegall, Helen Watkins and Kathy Warren. Anita Webb County Agent presented a program on the dangers of lead poisoning in homes and surrounding environments. Betsy, Frisky, Judy and Helen enjoyed their monthly Dutch Treat lunch prior to the meeting.
As mentioned above, there have been many wonderful events and celebrations in the City of Morton within the last few weeks. These have given many local citizens and visitors (two occasions entertained approximately 200 attendees) delightful outings due to the efforts/labor of many local organizations and volunteers.
