Following these great entertainment events, on Saturday, July 7 at 7:00 p. m. an Open Air Concert Featuring Anse Rigby will be presented. He is a contemporary Christian Musician performing selections from his album “All Along” and other original compositions. There will also be an unveiling of the new Sights and Sounds Park on South Main. This event is free to the public. Bring a chair and join in the fun. Congratulations to: Tim Beeland, Editor and Publisher of “The Scott County Times” newspaper on being named the Top General Interest Columnist among large weekly newspapers in Mississippi. The honor was bestowed during the Mississippi/Louisiana Press joint convention in New Orleans. In addition “The Times” Editorial Page was also named one of the best in the state with a third place nod. Fifty one newspapers submitted 2,307 entries this year. “The Times” competes in the Large Weekly category for papers with circulation over 4,000.
To: Sid Salter of Starkville, former Forest resident, on being presented the prestigious Silver Beaver Award in Scouting by the Pushmataha Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. He earned his Eagle Scout rank as a youth in Philadelphia and currently serves a vice president of the Pushmataha Area Council as a member of the PAC executive committee. This news is quite pleasing to this columnist who has fond memories of the presentation of the Silver Beaver Award to spouse Melvin from the Andrew Jackson Area Council, Boy Scouts of America.
To: Erie Phillips Haynes on the celebration of her 103rd Birthday anniversary held at her Brandon Court Nursing Home residence with loving family attending.
To: Easton Porter on his outstanding assistance in winning the Annual Crossroads Diamond Club All Star game. His pitching resulted in a perfect inning, also played behind the plate as catcher and left field and contributed two singles. His talent helped the South All-Stars to the victory. Easton is a Morton Panther and represented the South 3A team, chosen as one of the best talents in the district.

Travelin’, visitin’, and such: Linda Crotwell and family members, Derrick Hudson, daughter Alli and friend Lindsey, Macy Hudson, Nathan Wade, Gera and Hudson Bynum report enjoying a family reunion held in the home of a cousin in Vinita, Oklahoma recently. Also, Linda, Derrick, Alli, Gera and Hudson Attended the Pharmacy convention held in San Destin, Florida.
Patricia Westberry and some of her family members attended the Pharmacy Convention also.
Melvin, Frisky and Brian Roland were overjoyed by a drop in visit from dear friends (considered nieces/cousins), Amy and Tracy Haynes of Mobile and Huntsville, Alabama respectively. They were in Mississippi to attend the 103rd Birthday Anniversary of their grandmother, Erie Haynes. Before returning to their homes in Alabama they visited the Rolands and were treated to “Fish Day” at Scott Regional Hospital where they were introduced to local friends.
