The “Bound to Excel” Mentoring Group, which advances the cause of making a positive impact on community youth, is seeking funds in support of this program. Many lives have been influenced through the school year because of programs for youth at Bettye Mae Jack Middle School, Morton High School and Scott Central Attendance Center. This year’s program will include field trips, provide school supplies and rewards and transportation costs for underprivileged youth. Scott County MHV Leader Training/County Council meeting will be held at the MSU/Scott County Extension Service facility, 230 South Davis Street, Forest, on Tuesday, August 28 at 1:30 p.m. The program will be on “Prison Ministry” with Dale Weatherford presenting the program. Everyone is invited/encouraged to attend.

Travelin’, visitin’ and such: Will, Tara, Spencer Sumrall and friend Carlie McCrory drove to Bloomington, North Carolina recently and they visited the sites where the “One Tree Hill” Series was filmed and then on to Black Mountain for a brief visit with their son/brother/friend, Alex Sumrall. He has been living and working as a photographer/counselor at Rockmont Camp there this summer and has returned home to attend his sophomore year at East Central Community College.
