Travelin’, visitin’ and such: Morton Homemaker Volunteers Club met on Friday, December 14 at Fellowship Hall of Independence UMC for the 2018 Christmas Celebration. In the festively decorated room (courtesy of the church members), the club members and guests enjoyed a delicious traditional holiday meal. Bro. William Beggiani presented a beautiful, thoughtful, inspiring devotion and blessed the meal prior to the time of dining and fellowship. Sandra Measels, a local/nationally recognized Storyteller presented the entertainment for the evening with her version of “The Witch of Yazoo City” including her personal experience of touring the cemetery there, where the witch seemingly cannot be confined to her grave. She also shared her version of the extravagant life of the famous “Lady in Red” discovered in a grave in the Mississippi Delta who was perfectly preserved for more than a century in a glass coffin. Sandra’s skills/talent of her craft take us on unique and fascinating journeys with her. Those present were Guests: Bro. William Beggiani and spouse Natasha, Sandra Measels, Steve Lee and club members Betsy Comfort, Toney Hollinghead, Cathy Johnson, Diane Kirk, Mae Lee, John Wesley Patrick, Darlene Register, Melvin and Frisky Roland and Helen Watkins. Appreciation goes out to Independence UMC for the wonderful environment of the meeting place, to Glenda Sullivan and her staff at the cafeteria at Scott Regional Hospital for the catered Turkey and Gravy and the members for the many delicious side dishes providing a traditional feast.
