Announcements: Morton Homemaker Volunteers (MHV) will meet for the regular February club meeting on February 6 at Morton Public Library-1:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.
A Rummage Sale will be held at Excel, 383 South Fourth Street, Morton, on Friday, February 8 from 8:30 a. m. - 4:30 p.m. everyone is encouraged to come by and view/purchase from a choice of really nice items. All proceeds go to provide the educational programs available at the facility.
New Stage Theatre, 1100 Carlisle, Jackson, will present “Hell in High Water” reliving the account of the Great Flood of 1927.” Play and music by Marcus Gardley, directed by Francine Thomas Reynolds, with dates for the production on January 29-February 5-9 at 7:30 p.m. and February 3 and February 10 at 2:00 p.m. The period beginning on January 31 will offer several other opportunities, including Dialog (discussion about the impact of the community both then and now), Actor Chats and Youth Night at the Theatre. Congratulations to: Heather Ferrell, Young Scott County Family farmer along with her husband, Sean and son Ross, on receiving a new four-wheeler and $1,000 award. She competed in the Young Farmer’s YF&R Discussion Meet sponsored by MS Farm Bureau Federation. She then represents MS Farm bureau at the American Farm Bureau Federation’s annual conference in New Orleans. The family runs a full French Charloais cow/calf operation.
To: Jaden Ann Barnes, a 6th grader at Pisgah Middle School, on winning a 2nd Place Prize and $75. award for her art depicting community with diversity among the people working together with hands united by hearts in a farm setting. She was among more than 500 youth competitors in the art contest and will be invited to appear at the Mississippi State Capitol.
To: Pansy Dipuma on the occasion of her 96th birthday. She was honored on Sunday, January 27 with many family members and friends visiting to celebrate the occasion.

Travelin’, visitin’ and such: Morton was pleased to have Mississippi celebrities in town recently. Former MSU baseball head coach, Ron Polk was guest speaker at the Annual MHS Baseball Banquet and TV personality, Walt Grayson was guest speaker at the 60th annual Morton Chamber of Commerce Banquet. Both gentlemen presented entertaining and encouraging talks to those attending.
Those Morton MHV Club members attending the Annual MHV Awards Luncheon were, Betsy Comfort, Bobbie Hodges, Gail Griffin, Diane Kirk, Frisky Roland, Shirley Sawyer, Kathy Warren and Helen Watkins. They were treated to a delicious meal served at tables delightfully decorated with items depicting the theme “Cooking Up Fun.” Door Prizes were won by Judy Woods, Ester Perry, Betsy Comfort, Helen Watkins and Bobbie Hodges. Clubs representing towns/communities in Scott county are Cluster, Harperville, Morton and Ringgold. Everyone is invited to join these clubs regardless of race, ethnic origin, gender or disability. Check into becoming a part of this organization through the MSU Extension Service-Scott County Council. The opportunity to participate in projects that benefit local, county and statewide needs, plus subjects of interest to almost everyone is available in these clubs.
