Announcements: On February 25th American Legion Post 9 will observe the Annual Post Everlasting Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. This event will honor the memory of all local veterans (Legion members and all others) who passed away in 2018. Family members of those veterans honored are invited to attend the moving ceremony and the meal following. Help to identify deceased veterans by calling Terry McMillan at 601-940-0333 or Bill Lovett at 601-507-0305 with the name of the veteran and contact info for a local area family member no later than February 22.
The February MHV Leader Training/Council meeting will be held at the MSU/Scott County Extension Service facility, 230 South Davis Street, Forest, on Tuesday February 26-1:30 p.m. The program “Spring Program Ideas” will be presented by Vicki Ganann. The Annual Spring Fashion Review will follow the program. Everyone is invited to attend.
Morton MHV club wishes to express appreciation to Eddie and Kisty Powell for hosting the Annual MHV Friendship Dinner in their home on Friday, February 15. Also to Irene Martin and some of her students for presenting the entertainment for the evening.

To: Roti Ware former MHS Panther athlete on receiving his third Player of the Week Honor at ECCC this season. In a win over South West Mississippi Community College, he scored 31 points and 10 rebounds. In a loss to Gulf Coast, he scored 27 points and 12 rebounds. For the week he had seven assists and three steals. This season he is averaging 22 points, seven rebounds while shooting 92 percent from the free throw line.

Travelin’, visitin’ and such: Eddie and Kisty Powell of Dallas, TX recently celebrated their 20th Wedding anniversary on their “Dream Trip” to Australia and New Zealand. Highlights of the trip were attending the Broadway production of “In the Heights” at the Sidney Oprah House. Then in New Zealand they enjoyed swimming with the dolphins and experiencing the rare and unique Glow Worms found there. While out of town, Eddie’s parents, Emmery and Jan Powell enjoyed visiting in the family home with the four grandchildren. They took especial delight in attending the Annual Scott County 4-H Banquet where they took great pride in the achievements of each of the grands, who were awarded with very nice monetary prizes.
Morton MHV Club members and guests enjoyed the Annual Friendship Dinner hosted by Eddie and Kisty Powell in their Forest home last week. A bountiful meal of a variety of soup offerings and many delicious side dishes were provided by club members. Following the meal entertainment was provided by the Powell children, Brynnley, Ethan, Kylie and Lydia all students of Irene Martin. The three young ladies played solos on the piano and Ethan, a student of Emily Baker, with a Cello solo. This opportunity to have such talented individuals entertain those attending was delightful. Topping off the entertainment for the evening, Irene Martin presented a concert of favorite piano renditions concerning love. The music of romantic, brotherly and Agape/God’s love was uplifting and memorable. She, also, had a “Name the Tune” contest won by Judy Stegall and AnitaWebb (a tie). Members present were: Betsy Comfort, Linda Crotwell, Bobbie Hodges, Toney Hollingshead, Diane Kirk, John Wesley Patrick, Kistie Powell, Darlene Register, Melvin and Frisky Roland, Judy Stegall, Kathy Warren and Helen Watkins. Guests were: Vernon Crotwell, Alex Kirk, Judy Lewis Barbara Ott, Eddie (host) Powell, Donnie Register and Anita Webb MSU Extension Scott County Coordinator/FCS and her spouse Bob Webb.
