Announcements: Morton Public Library will present the Easter Bunny on Thursday, April 11 at 5:00 p m. Portraits with “Bunny” are $1 with all proceeds going to Friends of the Library.
The April Library Book Sale will provide bags of books at $1 per bag. Sign up during the event makes participants eligible for winning a prize to be drawn for at the end of the month.
The Miss Morton Pageant will be held at Roosevelt State Park Livingston Center on April 6 at 6:00 p.m.
Scott County Chapter of Alcorn State Alumni Banquet will be held at Roosevelt State Park Alfreda-Harris Lodge on April 19 at 7:00 p.m. with Fred McNair, Alcorn football head coach (SWAC 2018 Coach of the Year) as featured speaker of the night. Travelin’, visitin’ and such: Bro. Gary Glazier presented an inspiring message on “Do all I Can with All the Means I Can” as speaker at the third Lenten Lunch held at Morton UMC on Wednesday, March 27.
Those Morton MHV members attending the Cultural Arts Exhibit/Leader Training meeting at the MSU/Scott County Extension Service Facility on Tuesday, March 26 were Betsy Comfort, Gail Griffin, Bobbie Hodges, Diane Kirk, Darlene Register, Frisky Roland, Judy Stegall, Kathy Warren and Helen Watkins. Anne Cahoon presented a very interesting program on various crock pots and the capabilities of each type. She then served several different types of food prepared in on scene pots, with recipes that she uses in her catering business and for her family. Those enjoying the monthly “Dutch Treat” Lunch prior to the meeting were, Betsy, Diane, Judy, Frisky and Kathy.
The Scott County Forestry Association Banquet 2019 was well attended with all participants enjoying a delicious steak dinner. Jamie Holt, MS wildlife Fisheries and Parks representative gave an interesting presentation on the Mississippi Black Bear with emphasis on the history of its habitation in the state, the population locations and efforts to manage the increasing numbers to enhance their safety and the safety of humans during the rare encounters with Black Bears. Officers for 2019 were introduced, President Doug VanFleet, Vice President Jimmy Harrison and Secretary/Treasurer Steve Shepherd. Door prizes furnished by Tractor Supply were distributed by “The Luck of the Draw”.
Quite a few local members of Morton UMC, friends and guests attended the ECCC Encore Performance of the “Freaky Friday” musical on campus in the Vickers Fine Arts facility on Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30. Many of those attending were ECJC/ECCC alumni and always enjoy the talent presented in the productions there. ECCC trustee, Rebecca Farris has been responsible for providing the information on dates, times and title of each musical throughout the years. Those who attend wish to express words of appreciation to Rebecca and spouse Jimmy for the pleasure and great entertainment these outings provide for participants.
