Announcements: Scott Regional Hospital, Highway 13 bypass, Morton, invites you to a Picnic to Good Health-Health Fair on Thursday, April 18 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Enjoy a Free Lunch and register for door prizes. Free Health Screenings include Cholesterol, Glucose, Blood Pressure, Kidney Screenings, O2 SATS, Eye, Hearing Test, Grip Strength, Ask a Pharmacist, Ask a Therapist.  This event will afford the opportunity to discover the many health services available at Scott Regional Hospital, affiliated clinics, specialty services and partnerships.

Friends of Roosevelt State Park committee sponsored by Morton of Chamber of Commerce will bring the Annual Egg Hunt to the park on Saturday, April 20 with registration beginning at 9 a.m. Festivities are scheduled for 10 a.m. having the wonderful story of Easter told to participants, many eggs to hunt and donuts and juice served to the kiddies.

We Care Missions Food Distribution day for the remainder of April is Friday, April 26 from 10 a.m.-12 noon at Fellowship Hall of Morton United Methodist Church, 29 Church Street.

4-H Activities: Poster Art and Dairy Poster Contest-Due April 23 (2 areas to submit posters-”Inspire Youth to Think” and “Open Theme-promoting 4-H). Photo Contest-entries 8x10 may be digital, film, black and white, color or creative digital (place in a  8 ½ x 11 clear plastic protector).  Queen and Ambassador pageant-Tuesday May 1. Registration deadline April 26.  Scholarship applications due online to State by May, 29.  Scott county Cook-off deadline to register, May 24 (members must choose between pork, chicken or beef) Contest will be held on June 4 at Scott County Extension office-6 p.m.  (state Cook-off Contest in Hattiesburg is June 26.

Congratulations to:  R.C. and Syble Settlemire on the celebration of their 73rd Wedding Anniversary.  What an accomplishment..blessed by God with personal best wishes for his continued rich blessings for many more years of “Wedded Bliss”.

To: MSU senior member of the women’s basketball team, Teaira McGowan on being drafted number  three by the WNBA professional basketball committee.  She will be a member of the Indiana Fever.  Also to Anrieal Howard on being drafted 24th to play with the Seattle Storm.

To:  Connie Wash on winning a Blue/Overall Sweepstakes ribbon in the MHV Capital Area Fashion Revue modeling a Clothing Selection Semi-Formal/Dressy garment and to Frisky Roland on winning a Blue/Overall Sweepstakes Ribbon at the MHV Capital Area Meeting Fashion revue modeling a Clothing Selection Sportswear garment.  Connie is a member of the MHV Cluster Club, Frisky is a member of the MHV Morton Club.

Prayers and concern for: Robbie Warren, Pat Martin, Victoria Vivians, former Scott Central, MSU and Indiana Fever basketball team member (season ending injury) and continued concern for Linda Coker and Jeannie Easterling.   

Sympathy to the families of:  Correction, Ms Celeste McDonald (not Leslie Mcdonald as reported last week),  Zula McCrory Roland Taylor, Mary Yvonne Gunn, Mary Graves, Ronnie A. Salers of Brandon (graduate of MHS), Terry Glynn Clark and Pat Felton.

Travelin’, visitin’ and such: Jimmy, Rebecca Farris and son Dr. Brad Farris of Atlanta were among the wedding guests attending the wedding of their niece/cousin, Hannah Farris united in marriage to Sanford Moore at the ceremony performed at Crossgates United Methodist Church, Brandon.  Hannah is the daughter of David and Susan Farris, formerly of Morton. They also attended the Rehearsal Dinner at the Capital Club in Jackson and the reception following the ceremony held at The Jackson Country Club.  Rebecca was a hostess at the Bridesmaids Breakfast prior to the wedding at Genna Benna’ in Brandon.  Hannah’s aunt Karole King Farris Thomas of Salt Lake City, Utah was a guest in  her brothers’ homes A.B. and Jean Farris and Jimmy and Rebecca Farris. Following the event they journeyed to Louisiana where they visited with their uncle/aunt T. J. and Jessie Farris.

The last two recent Wednesday Lenten Lunches at Morton UMC were blessed with inspirational messages from Rev. Sheila Cumbest of Christ UMC in Jackson and Rev. E. J. Shepard of Sylvester UMC.  The attendance was great in numbers for both luncheons with many local attendees and a great blessing brought by members of Sylvester UMC supporting their pastor by bringing their church bus for the message, good food and fellowship.

Morton MHV/Scott County club members attended the MHV Capital Area meeting held at the Central Mississippi Research and Extension Center, Raymond.  Hinds County MHV members were hostesses for the event,  Mayor, Isla Tullos, Mayor of Raymond welcomed the area county councils/clubs and invited those present to visit the sites in the lovely city.  Lynda Smith, State MHV president gave MHV reports on upcoming service projects, State Council on campus in May and opportunities to purchase MHV items (T-Shirts, MHV necklace pendants representing MHV 100 year celebration, etc. for 2019) and Dr. Paula Threadgill, Associate Director and Dr. Sherry Surette, head of CMREC also shared information with an MHV/FCS update. A most interesting program was presented by Marcie Lockett, owner of Wild Birds Unlimited Nature Shop, on Bluebirds, their habitat, life style and opportunities to entice them into your yard.  Delicious treats were provided on arrival and during the break.  The Capital Area Fashion Revue was the final attraction of the morning. Those County councils/Clubs comprising the Capital area are Copiah, Hinds, Leake, Madison, Scott, Simpson, Rankin and Warren.  Those Morton members attending were Bobbie Hodges, Diane Kirk, Frisky Roland, Judy Stegall, Kathy Warren, Helen Watkins and guest Kyle Roland Sybil of Everett, Washington.
